Hey Fellow CGNers I need your input on what to sell, keep, or replace with..........

Well fellas, the Ruger Alaskan is now gone. I still have the Whelen as I still can't bring myself to get rid of it. I went to my gun shop and looked at a Kimber Montanna,HS precison, Benelli R1, 338 win mag all of which I've never owned or held onto. The HS was wayyy to heavy for my liking, the Kimber was nice but I still couldn't get over not having a floor plate, so I ended up with the R1 to try out. Haven't had a whole lot of semi's in rifles (BAR & 750 Rem) I thought I'd give it a shot. It's not the prettiest thing to look at like some rifles, but hopefully it performs well. If it doesn't do what I want then I'll probably get a Win Model 70 SS. Here it is....

I would like to point out that with all the excellent responses that were received from some knowledgeable people, the OP listened to Carmel's advice :sok2
:p

Don't worry the R1 isn't the be-all rifle. It's just something different to try(instead of another bolt action) as I get bored every once and awhile. I appreciate all the info given here by everyone and it's help me make some decisions. Just because I bought the R1 because Caramel has one, doesn't mean I ignored all the other suggestions. It's good to hear the input of people who actually own a certain rifle and whether they are happy with it. Caramel's R1 looks to be a pretty accurate auto loader so I'm just hoping mine will be as good. I'll be buying/building something this winter hopefully that will have a cool factor.....Just hard to find the gun right now that I want to build off of ie: New Model 70 Extreme Weather SS / Ultimate shadow SS either in 338.

That R1 looks like something off of a Sci Fi movie. Geez didn't anything I taught you stick? Remember, Remington 700 .338 Win mag. Last gun you will ever need.

Darryl (your uncle)

I was wondering when u might chime in....R1 seems to shoot well around 1.25" -1.5" with hornady 200gr factory loads. I haven't lost it totally,I checked out a new model 70 extreme weather SS. It was in 270wsm ,very nice gun, I'll put one of the model 70's in the rack for sure now just that model is hard to find. BTW I haven't forgotten things you taught me I just sometimes veer off track and try something different. LOL

I did found out with my Benelli R1 338, it do favor heavier bullets, if you find Rem Corelockt 250 gr, mine is printing easy MOA with them, with the 225 gr TSX, i am just smaller than MOA (.9 ) for my rolled ones, load devellopment is over for this year as i am pretty well set with that load, but next summer,i will try to close near .5 MOA with differents heavier bullets, very confident that the Accubond will be very good, they always are...
