At fifteen and a half, I'm probably one of the youngest people on the CGN forums, but I have wanted to enter into the world of shooting sports since I was eight. I've had the bad luck to be born into a family full of anti-firearms liberals, so I only started shooting in December 2010. My range offers a beginners course so I shoot .22LR at 20 yards every week. I'm a subscriber of Guns & Ammo and listen to Canadian Reload Radio every week. It's good to see there's a forum for all us Canadian gun nuts. Also want to add I have gotten twelve people into the sport since I myself started. I'm passionate about gun laws and am counting down the days till I can apply for my PAL.

Hello and welcome!
You sound very thoughtful for someone your age, which is nice to see..
I used to live in Victoria, difficult area for a gun nut to find allys.
Not a problem, CGN rocks and you'll find lots of good folks here

Heh. Thanks for your condolences. It really blows sitting around the dinner table and having this overwhelming urge to tell them all about the 2011 SHOT show and knowing if I do they'll all look at me like I'm speaking Russian and ask how they raised a right winger.

Welcome!

I also have an anti family, and I'll give you a tip. Hold in there. Convincing family is much harder than friends. I've convinced my brother ,but my sister is on the fence. Parents are still staunchly against it and it has been three years now. Very slowly, though, they're seeing things aren't all sunshine and roses.

Thanks for the advice. They never seem to have counter arguments, they just tend to stick their fingers deep inside their ears while closing their eyes tightly and making that 'lalalalala' sound I now associate with anti-gun activists all over the country.

enjoy shooting but take an interest in firearm history, you will learn alot about mankind, the history of guns is about the history of politics, your interest in shooting will stay with you a lifetime

For all the young people's sake, I hope they bring back Junior Pal's! Get all of your friends into the sport, just make sure they don't get cocky and act like they know everything.

My god... if I had a nickel for every person who walks up to the firing line with huge grins on their faces bragging of their 'fabled video game expertise' I would never have to worry about monetary issues ever again. I just sit there and nod, not shooting them down (pardon the pun) when they see they're skimming the edge of the paper at 20 yards and have landed a few shots on my target, and try to encourage them. Anyone know if you have to be 18 to join the CSSA/NFA? I'd like to join one to ensure that they support the sport and that there still are shooting sports to enjoy by the time I'm of legal age.

Welcome to Canadian Gun Nutz, the best Canadian gun forum on the web. It's great to see young people interested in the shooting sports. We need people like you to continue with the tradition long after old timers like me are dead and gone. I'm a member of NSR&G as well. You're welcome to shoot any of my pistols, revolvers or rifles any time you'd like.

Thanks! If I'm ever there and I see you around I'll be sure to take you up on that. Just want to thank everyone for the support and the warm welcome I've been given. I think it's a crime that so many people of my generation who live in cities are born into anti-gun families and don't have anyone, not even and uncle or grandparent, to teach them the basics of shooting. I just wish we could go back to the time when it was almost a given that your son/daughter would be given a BB gun for their tenth birthday, and that they would be taken hunting and taught basic firearm safety at a young age.
