Hey Mommabear

Hi guys,
Haven't heard a peep from them . Usually if they get anything they will run it into town and let the butcher do his thing. Mind you, if it's that cold there right now, they may just stay at camp. They can't call from a cell 'cause they are in a deep valley. I'm just hoping everything is well for them. I can't believe a week has gone by already!!

I'm gone next week. Calves only
Maybe I'll get a bear.

I was up a week ago to cut open the trails as I posted earlier.
I had the oportunity to test drive a Kubota RTV 900 Diesel into camp.
Amazing machine.
It's much heavier than an atv, too heavy for the bridges we built.
so, with a few temporary mods to the air cleaner, vents, and exhaust, I took it for a submarine ride!
I had the engine and tranny totally submerged. Water a foot deep on the deck, and she just kept on rolling.
It's got a longer wheelbase than an ATV, and hence needs about two inches more ground clearance than it has. If I were to own one, that would be my first mod.
It's also a foot wider than an ATV, and that means it won't fit down those narrow trails without some work.
I had no problems keeping up with the guys at reasonable bush speeds. It will do 27K on flat ground.
These are Farm vehicles. No licence, no VIN. Full ROPS canopy it's designed for farm and landscape work like golf courses. But, ATV tires are available!
It's made for work, not play, it has a 1100 lb payload in the hydraulic dump box.
Geeze, sounds like an add.
I was impressed, and so were the guys.
They run about 1300.00 new, I was driving a used one, on turf tires, and it's selling for 9500.00

they are probebly 3 sheets to the wind doing "men" things *bango music starts up* j/k thats a sweet ride JYC i took one of them for a test run a few years back at the plowing match in carleton place it was a hoot. they even gave me a sweet hat. for my collection LOL

Yeah, the one I was using this year, was a 'fire engine' at the plowing match in Keene. They loaded the back with a big tank of water and a pump.

I hope the boys are doing well. They've been up there before, so I'm sure they were prepared for snow.
Probably sleeping off the aftermath of a good moose drag right now.

I just heard from MooseTrapper , the fella's hunting partner in Fort Frances. They are heading out tomorrow morning early. The weather was really nasty all week. I'll let them tell their story when they get back ;) :D

the day we arrived there(area8) the weather was great....we scouted out our usual places......tons of track fresh and old..we thought for sure we would have our moose early...
opening morning for the hunt....not a damm thing was seen ,that day or the next..
then the rest of our hunt was in the blowing snow and wind for the next three days...
i was wierd, not a fresh sign of moose to be seen after the opener..we have hunted that area for the last five years...every day you should see a few moose..
now for the amount of deer we have seen:eek: like we were each spotting atleast 6-10 deer a day..it sucked the season for deer didnt open till the following week..
we also got to have a peek at few black bears..
oh well......we had fun:D
it would not be called hunting if we lucked out every trip..

better luck next time. just got back myself. We only came back with a calf....it was way too hot. We were dying from the heat. I am not sure but I thought I saw a Zebra:confused:

it seemed that the moose yarded up someheres and were not willing to come out for any reason.deer were spotted daily but was not open
