Hey Rick - I think it wants to shoot!

I prefer to stretch out the range a bit so I can really see what the load is doing.

Testing at 100yards is a PITA.

Too few groups to tell, but it does look like a bit of a trigger management issue?
 
Entirely possible.

I would have shot at 300 but the mirage was just boiling and running way too hard for that. Even 200 would have been stretching it.

I tell ya, some days I've got the gift to make a 2-shot bughole group into a 3 shot .750", that's for damned sure!
 
Nice shooting, gun shur is purty:). Not surprised by 4350 doing well, I use it in my .264Winmag exclusively as it gives awesome accuracy. If my groups open up beyond 5/8" for 5 I know the problem is the nut behind the trigger.:D

Xfan may be onto something here, I have experianced some bullets I tested in my 300 had better results at different ranges. The burgers may pull together at a little further out. I shot Noslers that fell apart after 400m but tight in close. I havent tried the Bergers so maybe they come together a little further out.

I know my favorite 208g Amax's with the load I worked out for my rifle are tight close and far and since have had no need to test other bullets. If your running the RKS barrel in yours it may be the magic recipe for your rig.

Have ya tried the 208's yet Ben?

Personal experience is that load testing under 200M doesn't tell you the whole story. I start at 2, then if that looks good, run 4, 6, 8, 1000.

Especially bullets like the 210 berger, etc. The big boomers sometimes take a bit to "go to sleep" so to speak.
 
I've got a box of those AMaxs to try as well. And SMKs. None of my LR friends can agree on a single bullet in their 300s... Rick and his SMKs, Blackcloud and his Bergers and you with the AMaxs. Some f-ing consensus people!

BC...I still shoot, just missing the shoot's that count due to work:(:redface:....still working on the buffalo hunt though, and put in for the draws for our annual with Rick.:rockOn:

A very pretty and practical rifle! For what its worth if I was putting together a .300 magnum long range load I would work with 220 and 240 gr MKs, but the 220 MK is probably the longest bullet you will get to shoot with your 1:10 twist. H-4831 is tried and true and doesn't require a compressed charge like some of the slower powders. When a load shows promise, try it at long range rather than assuming that the long range accuracy will be linear. As has been said by others, a long heavy bullet may require some time to settle in.
 
I normally run 190 and 200SMK's overmodest loads of RL-22 or H-4831...If your rifle wont shoot something in that range you may have a rifle (or more likely shooter) problem.

The 208 Amax is looks to be an awesome bullet, but I have only shot a few boxes worth. So far my best load is 69.5 grs of RL-22 (may be dangerous in your rifle:rolleyes:).

If the weather would ever clear up I could get back out there but it's been rain and wind for the last few days. Only 6 degrees right now and too windy to make it worth while. That said, the bugs are in hiding - not like last week when I hit the range.

Sorry, hard to tell around here.

You have any wind flags?
I got 2 propeller wind flags from PRS and find that they work so well that I don't develop loads without them anymore. The first time I set them up my buddies laughed. Now they don't shoot until the flags are up! Shoot when the flag looks the same and the bullets go in the same hole.
My collection of sub 1/4" groups has increased significantly since I began using the flags. I used to use flagging tape , but the wind flags let you "see" speed and direction changes that the ribbon does not.

Here is a vid showing how sensitive they are...They work very well....Watch the flagging tape in the background.

Cant tell you how well they work at prairie wind speed, but I'm sure ### can.
