Well, part of my Thanksgiving Weekend involved a (long-overdue) test shoot with the (NIB) CZ452 Varmint. It also gave me the opportunity to try the new Sightron S1 and knock-down shooting bench I made a week or so back. Weather was perfect, albeit...a little breezy. Got everything set-up, targets set @ 54 yards (meant to be 50, but whatever :) ) and I dug-out almost all the various types of 22 ammo I'd accumulated. SK Standard, CCI SV, CCI Mini Mags, CCI Blazer, CCI LR HP, American Eagle, 2-3 types of Aguila and Remington Yellow Jacket. For the first time ever....a gun that shoots almost everything decently! The CCI SV and SK Standard were the winners, slight edge to the SK. CCI Mini Mags were definitely good (no targets posted) but I was suprised at how well it shot CCI Blazer. Without a doubt, the gun's trigger is WAY heavier than I'd like it to be, so once I click "Submit New Thread" the next item of business is to contact YoDave. :) The scope exceeded my expectations, and rattled my opinion of what a sub-$300 scope can be. I'm very pleased with it.

Next-up... Run CCI SV/Blazer & Mini Mags through the Waltz die...and then re-test once I know the trigger is improved a little. With the results so far, I'm hoping a little tweaking can make this good rifle a great one! Feels good to have a CZ back in the collection.

First two targets SK Standard, last one CCI Blazer. CCI Mini Mags shot about the same.

Whats the eye relief on that Sightron? I have a 455 American with a Leupold Rimfire and the eye relief is right for the short LOP American, I just don't like the super fine reticle. May look at other options if the ER works,

Patrick

A measurement? Didn't check that...but can. I found it comfortable, with room to adjust the scope position forward/back if req. (see photo) The HHR reticle I chose is about the perfect width for me, but I THINK the finest one offered on the S1 scopes.

Nice ! i got a 4x nikon on mine but that may change now ..
same here, blasers work very nice in mine !

did you go with the high rings ? i did with mine cause i was having trouble with my fat fingers and the bolt hitting the scope ( talley rings here )

Good looking portable bench .Can you take a few more pics of it and from the bottom. How stable is it?
I use the minimags for distance shooting due to the HV rounds having less drop.I only shoot the SK out to 100yds
Yup the stock trigger is about 4lbs.Before you spend money on the yo dave kit take your stock spring too the hardware store and see if you can find something similar, would be way cheaper as it cost me about $38 cdn with shipping for that kit.

Thanks for the tip SC! The bench~I'd be happy to, but if it's OK with you...perhaps the next time I take it out. It is VERY solid, considering how light it is. Top is made from spruce 1x4s, the legs are 2-pc. CNC-cut 18mm Baltic Birch ply. I mounted 1/4"-20 T-nuts on the assembled legs so that I can attach them to the table using machine screws. Let me see if I have a better photo..

Where did you get those plastic knobs to tighten the screws by hand instead of needing any tools. Great idea I'm sure I can figure the rest out as I'm a journey man cabinet maker 30 plus years.

One of two places....but both should have. SPAENAUR, or FCI Moulded Products. Both in S. Ontario.

Real slick shooting bench there, 22LR... looks tacticool with the lightening holes in the legs.

My Varmint and Style both usually get pretty much similar 1/2" 50 meter groups with cheapo Winchester bulk, 3/4 - 1" when I rush or the cheap ammo reveals its inconsistency. The surprising thing is they do it even with my average (or less) skills.

Thanks easy~if the CNC machine I program wasn't so willing...they wouldn't be there at all! :) It actually does reduce the weight, which was the goal. Also the reason I used 1x4s on the frame under the bench top...not 2x4s. (which might have been the obvious choice) Very light bench indeed.

If you can usually get 1/2" groups at 50 yards or meters with Winchester bulk ammo, you have yourself an extraordinary rifle or extraordinary bulk ammo. Most shooters who usually get 1/2" groups with stock CZ rifles do it ammo such as SK Standard Plus or better. The quality of ammo is usually very critical to good shooting -- even with CZ rifles.

Apologies for the thread hijack, just a quick clarification. Maybe I was lucky with the bulk ammo, Winchester Dynapoints, I believe they are standard velocity. I looked back at an old thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/367574-Savage-MKIIF-insane-accuracy!

Since that post, I have done a lot more shooting with the CZs and the MKIIF, sometimes side-by-side. At 50 meters, there is no clear cut winner among them, although at the time of that Savage thread, the MKIIF did shoot sightly better than the CZs at 100 meters.
