Just joined not too long ago. Been learning alot on this forum. I have a question

I have private land in oro-medonte 60acres right beside lake simcoe. I have read the hunting regs and there is bows only season for deer but allow firearms for small game and turkey. and I have searched for discharge of firearms for simcoe county/oro-medonte/orillia and there is no bylaw. But oro-medonte has a bylaw for discharging firearms on Municipal Parkland, and Municipally owned Lands used for Recreational Purposes within the Township of Oro-Medonte.

I was wondering if I would have issues sighting in my rifle .270win and 12ga on my property?

much appreciated
Nathan

There is a chunk of crown land that might serve your purposes better in prefer law .. You should be fine with the 12 ga but not sure about the 270

from Newmarket! I would assume you should be able to target shoot if its safe to do so, on your land, but thats different than hunting. Perhaps ask a couple of neighbours in the area before you do anything.

I have spoke wit my neighbor and he is a hunter himself we share the land he uses shotgun. but I was just trying to figure out if rifle would be possible cause it seems like its a grey area and hard to get a grasp on. and silverdale is a trip.

hey skip where is this peferlaw crown land?

It's on smith blvd east of park rd.. I think at one point or another it was a gravel pit.. If your going east on smith it will be on the right about 5 minutes past park rd... If you hit the railroad tracks you've gone too far.. There will be a short driveway (like 1 car length) with big rocks blocking the path in.. Ad further to the east there is a metal gate . Go to the path with the rocks and walk in there

Yep 100% sure it's crown.. There is a private farm to the west of it .. Probably a half k to the nearest house from it

You see the long path that is in the middle of the long gap between the houses .. That's the crown land

I've shot thousands of rounds there with no issues ( I'm talking 308 223 300wsm 284 22-250 9mm x54 x39 plus tens of thousands of rimfire) and had a cop come in once only to tell me that a few seconds between who's would save him the calls about machine guns. That being said I can't promise you won't be hassled by the cops .. Private ranges can't even do that but would I hesitate to pop off a couple 270s nope just go to the end of the path and you will see where everyone shoots

No, they have signs posted and gates up... When I used to go in to clean up I had the chain on the ate dummied ... It may still e like that but it's been 6 months since I've been over there (bought a share in the Sharon gun club)

hey skip i went by the place and noticed rock boulders infront of the enterance kinda sucks. were those rocks there when you used to go?

Welcome to CGN, a great place to come for firearm technical info, legal info, and current events.

If you have a question that just can't wait for an answer, be sure to try the search function.

If you have any questions about the legal aspects of owning and using firearms, you'll find a good resource in the 'stickies' at the top of the list here:
http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?90-Legalese

As a new member, please do your best to represent the firearms community well. Here are a few things that often get a new guy into trouble: Not keeping the language clean, discussing illegal activities, and writing things which could reflect poorly on the community at large. Don't be offended if people are suspicious of you if you ask strange questions. It is not uncommon for antis (aka gun grabbers, aka the civil disarmament crowd) to cause trouble and stir up controversy on the forum. Sometimes the people here might confuse you for one of those people. Try to be forgiving of that because CGN has a lot to offer, whether you are a new shooter, or a veteran lead-slinger.

If you have a genuine interest in the rights of Canadian firearm owners, I'd encourage you to look into joining one or more of our national orgs. The two most popular are:
CSSA & NFA

With a little bit of research you will see just how much these orgs do to protect our rights. Not only that, but each offers insurance for legal firearm activities. Your money goes a long way to help the cause, but you would not believe how far having your name on the list goes in strengthening our position.

I'd also like to add this: The plight of the Canadian firearm community has been largely ignored by the Canadian media. About two years ago a new news network called http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca busted onto the scene.

The Sun News Network is a vocal advocate for our gun rights, so I urge you to do what you can to support them. Until the 27th of February, 2013, you can participate in an online petition to improve Sun's licence to 'mandatory carriage', meaning that they can be viewed on ALL basic cable packages.

Please take a moment to sign this petition: http://www.canadiantvfirst.ca.

Sun supports us, so please support them.

Once again, welcome. Shoot safe and have fun!

had a cop come in once only to tell me that a few seconds between who's would save him the calls about machine guns.

That's funny! had 4 rollup, told me I was using a silencer, it was an airgun! The Supervisor had a bird!
