Hey, I'm Gus from Quebec.

I'm a weapons technician for the Canadian Forces reserves, looking to work full-time (still in the reserves) since I'm not going to school anymore.

Only shooting experience I have is with the Forces... from the C7A1 to the C6. I learned from the best place with the best discipline, though.

Looking forward to getting my civvie licenses and start up my weapons collection soon.

So, good evening to you all. :)

How do I follow an act like that??

Anyway....
Welcome to CGN, Gus.
I am sure you will find this to be the best gun forum around.
Have a look at the Newbie FAQ section. A link can be found in my signature line below.
I hope you enjoy your visits here!

my 16 yo son want to join the reserves and also the weapons tech section.

how often do you guys shoot the C7 ?

Hi Gus, welcome :) Don't know if this is what you want, but my Dad was an armourer in the forces, retired from them, and joined the RCMP as a Firearms Technician, working in their crime lab in Vancouver. Seems to me they might be on the lookout for folks like yourself.. just a thought.

In the reserves? Not enough. ;) We go to the firing range during our BMQ (4 week basic military qual for the reserves) just to "feel" the C7A1. I fired 85 rounds through it.

We carry it all the time, though. During SQ ("Soldier Qual", 3 weeks in the reserves, other half of basic) we get to fire the C9A1 and the C6 at the range. Then again, just to get a feel of them. 100 rounds for the C9A1 and 120 or so for the C6.

During SQ we practice attack and defensive positions. That means blanks... a lot of blanks during defensive positions, where we stay in trenches and wait for the people that play the enemy to attack us. 5.56 and 7.62 blanks. Everybody gets a C7A1 there except 2 lucky people per section that get a C9A1 and two... unlucky people that get the C6s in the whole platoon. We call the C6 the "#####" for a reason.

In the reserves you don't fire the C7A1 much. We lucky weapon techs do during our careers though, a lot. :) That and other firearms.

The regular guys have WAY more actual experience during their training compared to us. Their BMQ is 13 weeks, if I remember correctly, compared to our 4. So it's pretty clear they get way more trigger time.

Folks like myself, as in weapon techs from the forces?
