Hey everybody!

Joined CanadianGunNutz so I could get a little more informed about firearms in Canada. I also find it nice to know that there are people who appreciate firearms as useful tools, not things to be hated and feared.

Don't currently have my PAL, but plan on getting it soon.

Was in the Army Reserves when I was 18. Loved firing the C7 and C9. Shot gold level on my "Warrior Shoot". Also - was in Cambodia last year and fired an AK-47. The thing was so loaded with oil... Sprayed everywhere (the oil, not the bullets!) and had to wash my face. Can't wait to get on a range again.

I have a question - even though I'm a long time away from acquiring a gun/rifle...

Should I get something cheap at first, or should I just jump right in and get something that's a little more expensive (higher quality)?

Hello and welcome. The advice about shooting something you can afford and enjoy is probably the best. If you shoot, but don't know much about guns, I suggest starting at the lower end of the pay scale. But absolutely take the time to find something you're going to like spending time with. Shooting can be addictive, but isn't for a lot of us (I collect and don't spend a lot of time actually shooting the things). But if you're a shooter, then spend the time to learn the gun, maybe consider learning to reload for it, and then start thinking about the next one. Enjoy.

Hey there fellow ontarian! Greetings and welcome to the site. REALLY good folks here, and lots of information and goodies. You have some shooting time in, so where you start would depend upon your goals. Target shooting only? Target shooting and hunting as well? Big game? Small game? Most start with .22 to get the basics down (you have that), and then move into calibres that best suit they're particular pursuits. I don't think that I'm alone in thinking that my needs are best served with a good .22 or .22mag for plinking and small game, a good .30 cal.+ for bigger game, and a good shotgun for birding. Of course, it don't hurt to have a few of each, or just something that you love for the looks as well as function. Enjoy the site, and once again welcome
