Heym SR20 bolt handle chrome?

Is the Heym SR 20 bolt handle chrome-plated? It sure looks like it. Or is it just highly polished bare steel?

Pretty sure just highly polished. I've had a couple Belgian 98 sporters and an fn Browning and bolts were all in the White and highly polished. Seem to really resist rust well due to buffed surface.

I also have owned numerous FN Mausers and various Swedish rifles that feature polished bare steel bolt handles, but they don't resemble the Heym bolt handle. It looks like chrome plating.

Disassemble it you should be able to tell

degrease it and a little dab of cold blue might give you a clue.

Good suggestion. Chrome won't change colour.

Did the chrome test. Apparently, it is just very highly polished bare steel. (Used an old chrome Triumph tank badge as a control. The cold blue didn't mark it at all.) Thanks for the tip.

Trust the Germans to put such a high polish on bare steel that it looks like chrome plating.
