I'm a LEFTY with MEDIUM sized hands. I would like a modern pistol with a 10 round mag. I'm thinking .45 but 9mm is uber cheap. Yah I know, I'm very vague. Anyway, I don't want a Glock, owned one for years and want something different. I'm thinking HK but other than Glock I am out of touch with these new fangled pistols. I'm a 1911 guy and they fit me perfectly but 8 rounds is lacking. What would you suggest?

HK USP Variant 2 (lefty controls).

Lefty

Try a Grand Power in 9mm. All ambi controls, polymer frame, etc. Try the search function for more info. Mine has at least 3000 rounds and loks like new.

M&P, available in 9 and 45 the grip size is about the same for both. They are completely ambidextrous, shoot well and are controllable. They're also cheap for what you get. Mine has been absolutely reliable, to the point I'm looking at getting a 45 to go with my 9.

I was looking at/fondling the HK45 on Saturday, and it is very, very nice. It has 10 round mags (here, and everywhere else in the world). The older generation of full-size USP-type .45's were 12 rounders, but they dropped that by 2 rounds to get a better grip on the new guns (at least that is the story I'm hearing in the gun mags). The slide stop is on both sides, the safety/de-cocker can be moved to the other side.

Look at it here:

The gun is pricey ($1,500-ish), but like the other HK's it's probably just about impossible to really wear it out.

I have the P2000 in 9mm. It is also very nice. The P2000, P30, P30L, and HK45 (the new generation of HK's) are all ambi-slide stop, modular, variants up the ying-yang, etc., etc.

I still think SIG's are the best all-around guns on the market, but the new generation of HK's are very nice, and very lefy-friendly.

Lefty?

I'm a lefty and have been "making do" with a BHP MkIII [ambi safety] in 9mm for many years. In fact I've owned many other variations of double stack 9mm but the BHP in above trim is a "keeper". Love it so much I added on in .40 S&W, too.

Para Ordnance, they have Carry size and you can get the mag button reversed easy and mose come with ambi safety.

Still a 1911! :)

Beretta 92FS. I'm left handed and the controls are very easy to operate on this pistol.

Well, I already have a Ranger II and BHP (Inglis). I ended up settling on a USP CT in .45. It was a smokin' deal new. Now, to find some 10 round mags and a Variant 2 safety/decocker. Wish I would have found an HK45 though. Maybe next months purchase.:D
