Hello,

I did alot of shooting as a kid and am looking to get back into it. Me and a buddy from work will be taking the CFSC & CRFSC next month and will be looking to join a club. I want to buy a S&W M&P9 or a S&W 1911.

Hey welcome, it is always nice to hear from people that are buying restricted firearms. The more the better. I might as well hit you up because someone else will anyway, joining the CSSA is an important step toward ensuring our sport for the future. Check the link under the Canadian Gunnutz logo at the top, if you are not a member already.

:welcome: there must be a typo in your post when you describe what you're looking at buying, you had "or" when we all know you meant "and". Be a regular contributor to the site, great people and lots of info. And X2 for the suggestion to sign up online to CSSA.

Anybody in Calgary going to invite pdubois64 and his buddy to their club? Relax, pdubois64. Somebody will be along. Shooters are like that. They'll help a new guy as best they can. You'll have a swarm of new friends soon.
Meantime, pop into your local gun shop and, if they have either try a S&W M&P9 or a S&W 1911 on for size. A handgun must fit your hand properly in order to shoot it well. How it looks doesn't matter.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will join the CSSA pronto. I wish I could buy 2 guns straight away but I think it will be one at a time. I am leaning towards the 1911 as I have a large hand and it seems the .45 may be the way to go. Too bad the ammo is more than a 9mm...oh well.

I might try to get to the gunshow today and try and handle a few. I have yet to even hold one let alone shoot one. Thanks again.

PS: Para 1911 vs. S&W 1911. Any opinions as to which is better? They are almost the same price.
