Hey folks

I am glad I found this site. It is nice to find something for us Canucks.

A little bit about myself.

My name is Greg and I'm an alcoholic.

Wait this isn't Tuesday night... All kidding aside, I have always enjoyed the shooting sports and hunting and wanted to introduce myself.

I started shooting years ago with my Dad and did some hunting but it wasn't until the last few years I decided to get more serious about it. So after a couple weekends and some $ I had a hunting licence, a RPAL and a desire to shoot more.

My first purchase was a Ruger 10/22 which I do like alot but find cheap ammo does not.

Next I had to have a shot gun for hunting. I picked up a Winchester 1300 Universal hunter. This was quite nice. I shot my first couple deer with it. I really enjoyed the different choke options for it.

Since I had a RPAL I decided to use it. I picked up a cheap Norinco .22 SA to see if hand guns were for me. They are but I never went beyond that. It is just a cheap little shooter.

For my birthday one year my Dad passed along a rifle that has been in the family for a number of years. A 1978 Marlin .444 This rifle is a boomstick for sure. I have hunted with it for the last few years and it has proven quite capable. I found this a very capable rifle under 150 yards. Beyond that it just didn't do it for me. I know there is the leverevolution ammo for it but not in my area. Special order stuff only.

My only complaint about this rifle is that ammo is dreadfully hard to find for it and I don't hand load. I wanted a rifle that I could get ammo for easily and that led to this years purchase. A Tikka T3 Lite SS in .270 I mounted a Bushnell Elite 4200 3x9 40mm on it and am quite impressed with it. Hunting starts in a little over a week for me and I am looking forward to firing this in the field.

I did notice that the Tikka seems to shun some ammo and prefer others. I have sighted in with the Winchester xp3 150gr, it seems to like that stuff; just wish it was cheaper.

Anyways, sorry for the long intro and all.

Take care all, happy shooting and be safe.

Welcome!

Hammond is not unknown. There's a Golf Course, and more importantly the Eastern Ontario Handgun Club (EOHC) is nearby. Great hunting (geese and deer), in WMU 65 (shotgun and muzzleloader only).

Hi Greg, welcome! Glad you found the forum. We'll meet at some point I'm sure (Andy does more than just know the EOHC club, he organises meets there) :D

Yes I don't live to0 far from the Golf course or the EOHC. I used to be a member there. Other things in life got busy and my membership lapsed. I should remedy that. I figured a few folks would know Hammond, but mention it on a coast to coast forum and more folks can picture Ottawa ;-> Actually Andy, I am pretty sure we work for the same folks.

I am at Blair.

Yes - I think we met a couple of years ago. I'm now at Blair too, and will be there working today :( (I have a proposal due on Monday).

Best of luck with the proposal. Hopefully you can get it dealth with fast and get back to your personal life.
