I'm a newbie to guns, although I fired some converted Lee Enfields in Navy cadets as a teen. Now I'm 21 and want to get into marksmanship and small game hunting when I get back home to Nanaimo, BC. I come back to Canada in about six months, so for now it's just airsoft for me. Only Korean men in the military get to fire real guns here--which is every single male of a large age range, because of conscription.

I'm on a bit of a budget as a college student and am looking for ideas on how to improve my marksmanship cheaply. I was thinking of just purchasing an air rifle when I get back, so I won't have to pay for a firearms safety course right away.

Today while browsing the web I came across this cool program called The Appleseed Project (in the United States only) http://www.appleseedinfo.org/ Is there anything like this training in Canada?

The things I'm most interested in relating to firearms are marksmanship, competitions, hunting (but I've never had the pleasure of hunting before), airsoft, paintball, anything tactical like that.

If you have any questions about Korea feel free to ask.

Hello and welcome to Gun Nutz.I think your idea of starting out with a pellet rifle is sound although if it's a reasonably powerful one you will need a PAL to purchase it.I think you'd be wise to take the firearms safety coarse soon after arriving back home. I think the coarse is around $125.00 although it may have gone up since I took it many years ago.

You can always get the book's and challenge the test's, but join a gun club, get some range time, borrow a gun or two

Welcome.

I've heard a representative of Appleseed on a radio show before. Sounds like a really good program. Not only do they teach how to acquire and hit a target from large distances using a rifle but they also teach history. Very interesting if you are into that.

Scipio - I would recommend getting your PAL and joining gun club. Or maybe even just joining gun club will be a good idea. Some clubs have large collection of 22 rifles and you do not need PAL to shoot them, its really good deal. Most club membership will be under 100$ and you will have to pay 2-3$ for single shooting event. Those drop-in fees usually just to cover price of ammo and targets.

If you purchase low-lever air rifle you will be just wasting your money that could be used to pay for firearm safety course or towards your first firearm purchase.
