My name is Kurt, also known as Perogieboy to some of my shooter buddies. I have been in law-enforcement for over 18 years and a member of a tactical team for about 13 of those. I am a Firearms Instructor and have participated in some locally organized shooting competitions. I am also a hunter so...I am a bit of a "gun guy"...nuff said.

Looking fwd. to learning from this vast wealth of experience contained in this site.

Also looking for an inexpensive moose/elk rifle if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Welcome Kurt.
It depends on your definition of inexpensive!
I purchased a Savage 111 package w/accutrigger (rifle+cheap scope) in 300 WinMag for $600 taxes in last year. This caliber will take down any critter you can find in North America. To me $600 was very reasonable compared to rifles that sell for thousands. Stevens (bare bones division of Savage Arms) makes very nice inexpensive large caliber rifles. Slap on a descent scope and you will have yourself a good combo.

Welcome to the "nutz"house :D

Or you could pick up a brand new *Stevens* model 200 in .270, 7mm mag, .308, 300 win mag, 30-06......each model sells for $330 here in Edm. Its based on the savage bolt design.
Like griffoneur says, throw on a good scope and "voila"

I was going to buy one in .204 for gophers but I wanted a heavy barrel so I went with a ruger
