I bought a used 9mm carbine on EE.
I find that the pull is too long. 14 3/4" from trigger to butt. I have no idea why it is so long.
The butt pad is mounted on 3 spring loaded shafts. Why a heavy gun in 9mm has this I cannot imagine. maybe it has something to do with reducing the required mass of the bolt in a blow back action?
Anyway, I took the springs out, thus collapsing the pad and making it a bit shorter.
To do this remove the 3 bolts that cross behind each spring section. These bolts clamp the two halves of the butt together. Then I used a knife to stick in the crack, prying the two stock halves slightly apart, wide enough to insert a screw driver into the crack. Then I pried the two halves apart enough to pull the butt off the stock. This released the 3 captive big springs and 3 small guides. The butt can then be inserted back into the stock, flush. the 3 bolts are then installed to clamp the butt in place.
The pull is still somewhat long - about 14"
I would like to acquire another used 9mm carbine (got one for sale?) and try removing the butt piece entirely and just gluing a piece of skateboard tape where the pad assembly used to be.
