Hey guys I got a few questions regarding the Hi-Point Carbine;

1. Is there currently a non-restricted version of the gun?
2. If it is restricted because of the barrel then how expensive would it be to obtain a barrel that would convert the firearm into a non-restricted gun?

Thanks guys!

it is restricted.
barrel cant be changed on it because the way its made.
if the manufature would make some with the proper lenght barrel then all would be good.
but they say they cant fill the orders they have and no interest in making a special run.

Well that is a shame. Btw how does one ask a manufacture to create a special run?

Thanks for the reply.

I seem to recall hearing from Kodiak Outpost when these first came in that they inquired about getting them to make non restricted versions, but Hi-Point didn't want to bother. Apparently, there's enough demand stateside for these that they have trouble keeping them on the shelves down there, so they don't want to bother taking time and resources away from production to tool up for a Canadian non restricted version.

In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath on getting a special run.

I was unaware that fugly=prohibited :D

No, seriously, it was considered prohibited up until last year. The RCMP insisted that it was a bullpup that could be fired without the stock attached, therefore making it prohibited. They did a review of their classification last year, resulting in them conceding that they are now perfectly legal for sale up here.

The Hi-Point looks nicer than the closest competition.
The JR Carbine looks ###
The Sub-2000, even ###er

Wow I own one and finally someone agrees that they aren't all that ugly,
995ts. The pistols now thats something else. The guns have some weight to them and shoot great.

Anyone who thinks they look ugly must be referring to the original runs. The 995 TS looks really cool. I have one, and it shoots amazing as well, easy to strip right down to nothing and clean. Great gun, cheaper to buy than the Sub2000 or JR carbine. A no brainer for a cheap bastard like myself!
