Probably a FEG clone... Hope you paid FEG prices!

Yep...."B" followed by a space and then the number isn't a FN or Browning serial number. Pretty sure that is a FEG number range. Sounds like it's one of the Hungarian clones. Does it FN rollmarks on the slide? There were quite a few counterfeit Hi Powers around. The story is that they were ordered by an arms dealer from FEG, marked as FN's and then sold to Iraq while it was under UN sanctions. Not sure if any of that is true but counterfeit Hi Powers are definitely around....FN markings and all.

Just Google "counterfeit Hi Power" and you'll find lots of information.

Sadly I've seen dealers here in Canada selling them as "Browning Hi Powers" on several occasions.

I hope the OP didn't pay Browning prices.

Interesting.....bought of 'ee' ....advertised as browning hi power, no mention of clone etc.....better nail this down, it's not a model I'm super familiar with....will pics help? And if anyone can give a ball park value...according to the paperwork, it's a browning, model 1935... But that serial number?
Thanks again...I knew this was the place to ask..

Here is a post on the subject from a few years ago by Stephen Camp (since deceased) considered a foremost expert on the BHP.

As to value it is hard to say. I'd put the FEG marked Hi Power clones in the 350-450 range. As to the counterfeit ones...who knows. They have a reputation for poor internal finish and grouping poorly. Some people might be buyers for the special interest factor and because of the back story. I thought about buying one last year but the seller insisted it was a genuine FN BHP and stayed firm at BHP pricing.

I'm sorry to say but it's a fake (all be it a nice looking fake ;)). To the best of my knowledge FN never used a serial number range starting with a "B". As per the links I posted, these guns are pretty well known in the Hi Power community.

It's an interesting pistol.....lots of history I knew nothing about.....I don't dislike it, but I don't want to get fleeced on the price...just don't understand why the paperwork says browning if it's a feg....how does that happen?

Feg marketed them as browning type and also marketed them as mauser type Browning high power pistols
are, browning, inglis or made under licence military contract ie argentina military contract hp

Registry was never all that accurate about make/model, especially with military type stuff that could have been made by many different manufactures. And these are more counterfeits then clones....
For a price on that, any more then $500 is too much. $400-$450 I'd buy it.

OP, do you have the pistol in your possession? It would be interesting to know what the internals look like. From what I understand FEG was capable of building some very nice units and others that were very roughly made.

Fellows, i was looking at this gun and told the seller it was a FEG clone after getting the serial, i still have the pictures and serial. It looks like he willfully misrepresented it if you were still sold it as a FN hi power as he was well aware.

Op, can you pm me. I will pass on all the info and correspondance i have.

Interesting. I have the same gun. S/N B 22###. Bought it new from Wholesale Sports in 1991 when they were down on 9th. They brought in a pile of them and were sold as surplus Browning Hi-Powers. I even put the same rear sight on mine as the OP has on his.

Auggie D.

Just to be clear, it is not a FEG clone but rather a counterfeit FN. (FEG clones are marked as such)
