Given the choice between two glocks the 17 and 22 which one would be better suited for novice competition?

Both are equally as good for competition in IPSC. It boils down to preferece and ammo costs, but the two are equally suited as far IPSC is concerned.

9mm is cheaper to shoot and in my opinion has milder recoil and muzzle flip even if the 9 and the 40 are both loaded to the same power factor.
