"Hicks Accurizer" for Ruger No 1??

Brownells

Seems to me there is a gunshop in BC that imports from Brownells. I saw the ad in Canadian Access to Firearms a while ago.

I had one on my No 1 a couple of years ago and had no trouble getting it from Brownells.Hmmm

It all depends if the manufacturer keeps his export permit current. Brownells wont/can't ship if there is no export permit in place. This makes my head hurt. You would think that as the retailer, Brownells has legal ownership of the item they are selling, and that their export permit would be enough, but apparently not. There was a Sourdough front sight, for well under $100, I ordered last year, but the manufacturer had no export permit so Brownells wouldn't ship it. I bought an XS instead.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to drop a line to Mystic Precision. Accurate shoot'n is what he is all about and i bet he could dig up something or lend some advice.............

Have you tried ordering one from Hicks themselves? Worth a shot. I got mine from Brownells in 2006 and had no trouble getting it then.

I tried getting one from Hicks themselves and from Brownells and both were denied...saying they could not send across the border due to regulations. I'm still looking and am going to give this other place a try...the one in the previous post. Thanks for the input though...I do appreciate it. Cheers.

Unless I'm missing something, the Hicks Accuriser attaches to the fore end hanger and allows a varied amount of upward pressure to be placed on the barrel via a tensioning screw. One then varies the tension until a sweet spot is found and the rifle begins to group better, correct?

The same result can be had by drilling and tapping the fore end/ main spring hanger and then installing a tensioning screw which will function the same as the one on the Hicks. When I did this on the No. 1 I have, I also made up a shim of UHMW that the tensioning screw bears on, both to prevent marring of the barrel and as well to spread the pressure out a bit.

Please note that the above isn't something I dreamed up on my own, but as I recall I read it as a potential fix for wandering zero on No. 1's years back and thought I was nothing out trying it.

An accompanying modification I did at the same time was to float the barrel and epoxy bed it onto the hanger, so it didn't contact the barrel or the reciever. From what I've been able to read on the subject that is an important part as well.

The above modifications, coupled with the addition of a Moyers trigger were successful on my rifle, an '82 vintage rifle made when the reputation for barrel quality was somewhat of a roll of the dice.

Hopefully that was some use to you, good luck with your No. 1.

Regards,
Dwayne

yup this has been done a lot, just have forened drilled and tapped for a screw, pot some loctite on and instant accurizer.

Suggest you google "Ruger No 1 accruizing". I think thats how I found the Hicks in the first place. At the time I originally did this there was a whole list of stuff to do to a No 1. A lot of it could be done by someone with a few simple tools. Check it out.
