I purchased in April a Swede that was looking great outside.
However later when I took the wood apart I find a ring of red rust at the end of action and the begining of barrel.
If you buy a milsurp are you disansembling to see any rust spot?

Ive never taken one apart prior to buying it, and so far have never found any rust either. Have you tried cleaning it off with some fine steel wool & oil?

It happens. Just clean and stabilize it. Sometimes when it is an old rifle from a hot, humid country, the rust pitting can be quite remarkable.

Its not uncommon. If the bore is good and the action is smooth don't worry too much about it. Old rifles can have a bit of rust, its easy to clean and usually doesn't affect shooting. Even pitted bores can shoot really well.

Very few sellers will let you disassemble a rifle to check that kind of stuff. Isn't really a big deal anyway. The bore and over all condition is more important.

Most of my milsrups came with minor rust under wood.Nothing to worry about-light oil+0000 steel wool do the trick in no time.

IMHO much more worrisome is wood rot/fungus of the stock and metal parts rusted shot. That is't easy fix but it doesn't happen nearly as often.

Yes, Milsurps are no stranger to rust.

I am very picky about rust.

Like the old saying goes, been there, done that.

light oil+0000 steel wool
has been my friend for many years

If it is something I can't live with, down the road she goes with full discloser to the next buyer.

I have a M38 that had serious rust below the stock. Had to take a steel wheel to it to get it off. Reblued the surface areas and the bugger shoots like a dream.
