high end .308 semi recommendations

Hi I am going to replace my DPMS LR308 SASS, with something that is a higher end. Right now I can get .75 moa groups at 100 yards so I want something that will do at least .5 moa and run on Pmags. Also I would prefer for it to be piston driven. I had been looking at the Hk, but could not find any reviews. Anyone have any suggestions

The piston and .5 moa accuracy requirement make it tough. Maybe the POF 308?

The issue here is you lose accuracy with a conventional piston. That can be countered with a heavier more rigid barrel. But ultimate accuracy is generally less than a comparable DI. Most of the piston AR308 rifles are designed for good accuracy and reliability with various ammo along with a volume of ammo being run. Not ultimate accuracy.

You need a match barrel and match trigger regardless to hope for .5 moa.

The LMT MWS with SS barrel is a possibility but it's DI not piston. Pretty much any DI AR308 with match barrel and trigger should work for .5 moa. With match ammo and quality ammo of course.

The piston request really limits your options.

You don't need a new rifle.

Try a 24" Lothar Walther Stainless Steal barrel with 1-11.25" twist and a 2 stage match trigger.
 
Go Hk for the money, KAC is very nice but extremely expensive, HKMR308 can be had for much cheaper. Tactical Imports can get it in for you, and they can the parts on a regular basis. The KAC is amazing too but for the money the HK will last longer I think, and you will have more money for optics...
 
Piston and half moa don't go together. Don't give a crap that folks say pistons don't effect accuracy, the proof is in the pudding.
Do a custom .308 like a Les Baer, Ga precision gap10, or a larue obr. Half moa potential in all of those.
You will be dissapointed by the hk, pof and maybe even the sr25 if you are currently shooting .75 moa consistantly in five round groups.
Only thing that has a hope of shooting better than that is an lmt mws with the ss 5r barrel. The three customs I mentioned will shoot better yet though.

Based on what experience with these guns have you had.

I get that you sport wood for the hk, but they do not approach the lmt 5r's or the customs for accuracy.
They lost out in the Brit trial based on accuracy. All reports I've seen place them in the 1 moa to slightly sub moa range consistantly, which honestly is great for a carbine designed to chew through tens of thousands of rounds.
The 5r lmt's are .5 to .75 guns, the gap10 and the Les Baer are .5 guns.
As far as experience goes, I've got thousands and thousands of rounds through the mws' in different configurations, quite a bit with dpms, a few days with sr25 and pof.

For the OP though, if you really want to step up, prophet river can import you a GAP-10 that is literally guaranteed to shoot .5" average groups.
Other than that, you'd be best off doing a rebarrel.
 
If you are actually shooting .75MOA groups and the weapon you have now is reliable, buy a match barrel and good trigger such as a Geisele. There's no need to buy a new rifle that may or may not perform better than .75MOA.

Your profile says Edmonton. What range are you using the weapon at where .75MOA isn't accurate enough?
 
That’s the problem the DPMS is not reliable, been waiting for parts for the past 8 months!!! A little bit off a piss off, but I have had great luck with my xcr-m!! There is nothing wrong with .75 moa I just want something better that can shoot better. I shot at the Sherwood Park range. I bought the DPMS second hand and it has never run right, I have lost my faith in. SO now I am just waiting for parts and can’t wait to get rid of it!

GAP-10, I like that your guarantied .5 moa and have it done up your way, how much more is going to be to get it in form the states?? And I bet they have great customer service. How reliable is the gun?
LMT, great all around rifle, and has a reasonable priced
KAC, Looks really nice and will work for long rang and CQB, 6500$ price tag, has me thinking I should have my DPMS re-barreled and fork out the extra 3g and get a nice semi 300 win!!!
