High end

In a bolt action (other than a double rifle) I would suggest without question either the
Blaser R93 or the newer Blaser R8 rifles.
For safety ,function ,speed an accuracy these are in a class of their own.
Quick change ,multi caliber,straight pull "safety" bolt can be had from utility synthetic to
Fully engraved show quality lumber.
For a hunting gun this could be the LAST rifle you would ever need to buy and just add
calibers to suit needs.
NOT CHEAP but inexpensive when you see what you get for your $$
The new R8 can have you varmint hunting and with a quick change shooting the African 5.
Look them up.

Being a lefty custom units do get advertized once in while you have to know what you want and have to be able to say yes quickly for the right deal I just picked up two remington 700 lh custom rifles from the EE looked at what it would take to build them as to buying a used unit sure the color may be not to what you would order but if it has been built by one of the good guys it will shoot as you would have built it with your colors and at half the cost made sense to me now I have a custom 223 lh and a 270lh custom both shoot great but it was long time looking they both came up a month apart ouch just before xmass
 
If I'm going to spend more than $2K on a rifle it will be a custom rig. If I'm spending that much money I want it to be my idea of a rifle, not someone else's. If your idea is particularly good, a few years after pictures of it has made the rounds on the internet, someone will produce a factory rifle very similar to it. Now I'm not suggesting that my custom .375 Ultra was the reason for the .375 Ruger Alaskan, but . . .

If only you had put the scope in the right place Ruger would owe you some sort of royalty. :D
 
Well Bill Leaper is still around. Maybe I should be talking to him. Any other names come up other than Martini? Will have to make up my mind as to what cal. I could get a 30-06 build but I already have one. Anybody got a build from Barry Jensen at Bits of Pieces?

There's "high end", and then there's "perfection of craft"...which is where Martini & Hagn comes in.

Couple years back Ralph handed me one of his recently finished Hagn falling block actioned rifles to have a look at, custom ordered. Just about brings tears to your eyes! If it gets any better than his guns, I can't even imagine what that might entail. ( The rifle was $10,000 US at the time when a Canadian dollar was about $0.70. )

Anyhoo...

Were I going to step up into the price range mentioned, would look seriously at either HS Precision or a Cooper.
 
Well sir springer, its looking that way pretty much. Both seem to have the coveted accuracy guarantee and it looks like I can get both in a leftie. I have begun contacting the agencies that sell them in Canada to see what I can come up with. Thanks for all the great info and ideas guys. It has kept me quite busy for the last few days. I have had no experience with any of these rifles but from what I have read in forums they are very nice indeed. From sites I have been on the Blaser and the Sauer are better left alone. If I had more cash I would certainly look at the new Mauser. A bewildering array of nice lookin stuff to say the least. Makes my Ruger 77 look lumpy. Still buying lottery tickets.....

I use a guy out your way almost exclusively, Dave Jennings in Pritchard BC (250-577-3244). Dave's done a couple of "from the ground up" custom builds for me as well as extensive work on a couple of semi-custom rifles. I've always been very happy with his work. Hagen and Martini are your one stop shopping for an art gun, and thats who I would choose for a rifle with lots of embellishments. But although I appreciate that level of craftsmanship, I'm not prepared to pay for it.
