This is just a preview to a thread that will soon appear in the Photo Gallery section of this forum.

These guns are not the basic ones sold by Armrus in the past for as little as $ 250. These come with engraving, carving and inlay...

How much do these go for again?

The better shotgun combos that ARMRUS was selling were between $2,500 to $12,000 IIRC.

ARMRUS imported very few high grade Toz products a couple of years ago. These were sold immediatly ($2000 - $4000).

Later on he brought a few firearms made by TSKIB SOO (subsidiary of KBP).These were even more expensive (up to $ 20,000). These guns take a long time to make.

The picture of the sxs posted by Sharptail is probably made by TSKIB SOO. The name of the person who worked on this gun can be seen on the engraving...

I just started a picture thread for the Toz-34 in the "Photo Gallery" section of this forum. Please post the pics of your Toz-34 there. Thanks.

I take it that there are a lot of right handed shooters who must have a sling and tacky artwork to go along with their gun of choice lol!!

The maker is Fiodor Matska from St.Petersburg (1882-1936). I don't know if there was a model designation. His apprentice and successor was Konstantin Maslov, and you see Maslov guns which are virtually identical. Matska's work can hold its own in any company. Here is a hammer gun by Matska:

Little known, a Matska gun can be a real bargain - if you can find one.

Sharptail,

Yesssss, of course. Feodor Osipovitch MATSKA and Konstantin MASLOV....The great masters.

Their sxs shotguns (and their successors) were called TS-1, TS-2 and TS-3.

I have these pictures of a TS-3 made in 1949. This one was made in the city of Tula (either in TOZ armories or in TSKIB SOO). Please don't ask me to put a pricetag on this gun.....

More modern versions of these guns are made jointly by TOZ and TSKIB SOO in Tula (about 300 km south of Moscow). They are called MTs-111. You can see it on TOZ's website http://www.tulatoz.ru/en/mc111.html

Here is a picture of a contemporary one.

Amazing how a humble Toz-34 thread can lead to discussions about top grade masterpieces :)

Thanks for your input Sharptail.

Hey, I'm the one who said the higher grade versions were worth considering:p :D

Tozman, thank you very much. While I am aware of the 111, the TS-1, 2 and 3 designations were unknown to me, as was the TS-3 made post war. What a gun! Wonderful engraving (I love the fences) and unusual features (look at the breech face, and cocking system) make for a very tasty piece of kit. Perhaps as westerners dig deeper into the former Soviet Union, a few more of these treasures will be revealed. We can only hope.

Does anybody know how to tell what year a TOZ-34ER is? I just acquired one today and wanted to know some more info on it. It has the Tula star on the bottom along with "MADE IN USSR". So pre-1991 but I was hoping to get a little more specific through the serial number etc.

Thanks,
Brian
