High Mount Red Dots on Shotguns?

I'm looking at picking up a Sig Romeo 5x Gen 2 to mount on a Maverick 88 with a saddle mount. I'm looking at this optic specifically because of the great price for the feature set and good reviews.

Unfortunately because the battery compartment is integrated into the mount, the height is fixed and is apparently meant for absolute cowitness on ARs. From what I understand; you want a red dot as low as possible on a shotgun with a traditional stock (Williams made one with the battery/controls above the lense for just this reason). I've also thought about using a Magpul SGA stock with a cheek riser to compensate but I'm not sure if it will still be too low.

Any thoughts or experience on this matter would be appreciated.
 
The SGA Magpul stock has worked for me in the past for a setup with a scope on a cantilever barrel. That setup was pretty high.

I am sure the Magpul SGA stock with the proper cheek riser will work for any red dot that is out there ....

Get a Holosun ARO, it's the newest best budget dot, and they also manufacture the sig romeo 5 red dots. It's got high and low mounts and comes in at the same price, if not cheaper. There's just nothing you can do about the sig romeo 5 with the integrated mount if you need a low mount.
 
I use taller red dots on shotguns all the time I don’t have any issues shooting them
Just gotta use your chin instead of the cheek lol

I'm not opposed to high mount red dots or having a chin weld, it just seems like everyone is trying to have their red dot mount as low as possible on a shotgun (the aforementioned Williams sight and other optics mounts/cuts made specifically for shotguns). I figured it would be for a reason like not having the gun smack you in the face when firing, height over bore etc.

I do. TacOrd TOMM for me for this very reason.

Reason is indeed height over bore. I learned my lesson with that at a 3 gun match whereby I was shooting too low after sighting on for slugs at 50M.
