High or low brass?

Here's a stupid question for you shotgunners out there.

What is the difference between high and low brass shells? I know the obvious answer is the brass length from the rim to the hull. But what is the purpose of it?
 
IMHO its just for looks. Winchester compression formed hulls be it low brass AA trap hulls or high brass field loads have the same case capacity and therefore use the same load data. If you don't have a MEC press with a collet sizer, sizing high brass hulls is a real pain in the azz (the brass won't fully eject from the sizer). Having high brass doesn't make the case any stronger from a practical aspect. As a kid I really thought the old imperial "half brass" long range shells were things of beauty!!
