I was looking at Accurate Powder's reloading guide and they have several sets of data for the .223 Rem.

The one I found surprising, and very interesting, is the data for "Bolt action rifles and Semi Auto Weapons rated for the latest NATO/MIL ammunition".

The pressure is <63,250 psi (SAAMI is 55,000 psi IIRC). Anyways, out of a 24" barrel they have some very impressive loads listed. For example, Barnes 62gr TSX at up to 3377 fps and the 70gr TSX at up to 3103 fps!

Have any of you fiddled around with these loads? Are modern bolt action rifles like the Tikka T3, Stevens, Vanguagrd etc in this "Bolt action rifles and Semi Auto Weapons rated for the latest NATO/MIL ammunition" category?

Yes, I know how to work up loads, I am just curious as I have never seen such stout loads for the .223 - maybe I just wasn't looking?

I don't see why the .223 coudln't be loaded to the same pressure as say the WSM's (about 62000psi IIRC) in a bolt action. I assume the SAAMI specs were prescribed when the 5.56 was primarily a M-16 load and I woudl imagine that lower pressures would be desirable for full auto?
