I recently picked up a 12.5" mag fed grizzly from Canam's scratch and dent section, got it running nicely with minimal fuss.

I really want to swap out the tank of a stock and have been coming back to either the Mesa tactical LEO or high tube stock adaptor/kit. I was wondering which will be the best in terms of cheek weld, my gut says the LEO will get my head low enough to use the ghost ring sights or a red dot like the trs-25.

Anyone with the either of these set ups care to comment? Are either of these hard to use stock sights or red dot without a riser? I want to keep the ghost ring sights and drill and tap the small picatinany rail for the grizzly I front of the rear ghost ring. Here's some pics of what I mean.

LEO^^^

High tube^^^

Alternatively if the high tube is low enough to use a red dot without a riser then I can mount a full length rail and any combo of red dot, sights I see fit.

It's basically going to be a slug and buckshot kind of gun, fun time at the range gun and bushwacking shorty. I have a 12g with a 20" barrel and bead sight, that takes chokes so I want to have some fun with this little grizzly.

I have the LEO on a Mossberg 590 , and ended up putting GRS on it , found it a little hard to get a low enough cheek weld with just a bead sight , a red dot would work nicely with the
LEO , with the high , I would think you'd need a bit of a riser.
You might want to add one of these to it , they help , http://www.gptactical.com/en/products/shotgun-accessories/p17723722.html
And maybe have a look at a limbsaver magpul stock recoil pad , if you go with a magpul CTR or MOE stock , just a thought .YMMV

Cheers, I thought that might be the case, thankfully the ghost ring sights are tall and the red dot taller. The more I keep looking at them the more the LEO seem like the way to go, especially after comparing cheek weld with the stock that the grizzly comes with.

Any idea how short the LEO is when at its shortest position? I want to keep this 12.5" in the NR class.

Mine , with a CTR stock and thicker pad is about 12 5/8" from heel to trigger or about 11" from rear of receiver , this is on a Mossberg , not a Remington .
Another thing , if it makes any difference to you , is that the high tube would make recoil straight in line like on an AR .

Somebody should be coming along soon to better help you with this .

Can anyone give me a length measurement on an 870 of the fully collapsed LEO adaptor from say the bottom edge of the adaptor were the reciever would be to the end of the buttstock? Just above the trigger group/guard and safety is?

I was gonna post a pic of mine for reference but you already have it. (Last pic) Lol I love the high tube. But you need sights as it's too high for stock sights. I pulled the red dot off and I'm just running the irons now. Best way to describe it is it feels identical to an AR. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask.

That ones yours? Lol, I've been saving pics to look at while I've been thinking about gong this route. Good looking shotgun, pretty sure I'll be using the LEO version though. I like the high tube but I want to be able to use the ghost ring sights it came with plus a red dot. I just need to figure out if it will keep a 12.5" grizzly in the non restricted length class when the stock is at its shortest position.

I wanted something different and I like the look, that why I got the high tube. Although there are time I wish I got the Leo. You won't be disappointed as the quality is superb.

You can also pin the stock to the length needed to keep it non restricted if it comes to that.

Have been told by one of the guys at CDN Gunworx that the LEO will keep a 12.5" grizzly in the NR class with the stock in its shortest position. Can anyone confirm?

I'm going to pick up the LEO, just have to start making a list of the other parts I want now.

My LEO on an 870 is 11 5/8". It does have the Endine so that might make it a bit longer than others.

Given 26" OAL requirement, - 12" (barrel length minus part inside receiver) - 11" worst case scenario for the LEO = 3" The 870 receiver is 7 3/8 long to that bottom point you asked for. Given that your receiver is much longer than 3", I think you are safely > 26".

Cheers, thanks for the measurement. I just measured my 12.5", from the muzzle to the end of the receiver near the bottom is 19 3/8" so I should be well over the 26" OAL. I've got the LEO kit coming in the mail as we speak.

So I got my Mesa LEO stock kit today, easy instal. Had to file and sand the rem 870 police forend a bit to get it on easily, she was pretty tight lol. Man I like this setup already, for anyone interested in measurements here they are. From buttstock to end of the adaptor inline with the safety and fully collapsed I'm right at 10 5/8", fully extended it's 13 7/8". OAL on a 12.5" grizzly fully collapsed is 30", extended is 33 1/4". So well within the Nr 26" OAL for a shotgun, can't wait to shoot it.

Feels a lot lighter than how it was in factory furniture. I still have to sort out mounting the vertical grip and I need to drill and tap the reciever in from of the rear sight for the low picatinany rail I have for it. Will mount a trs-25 on it but I plan on keeping the ghost rings, cheek weld is perfect for them as is. The Mesa high tube kit would've been a bad choice with the stock sights.

Oh and being 4" over overall length will mean an 8.5" grizzly will still be NR in length with the Mesa LEO stock fully collapsed.

I'm going to say no with the mag fed, not sure with a tube fed version. The adaptor slides over the rear of the trigger guard but if the front of the group drops first you might be able to remove it without taking off the stock. I don't mind as I don't take out the trigger group very often if ever. I barely clean it for that matter lol.

I've got the LEO stock with Magpul MOE furniture and an endine buffer on my 870 Police Magnum. Great stock. My particular build has an 18 inch barrel with Vang Comp porting and Wilson Combat Ghost ring sights. Recoil is tame for 12 gauge.
