Had my super magnum 44-40 model 1892 Winchester out for this years hunt.
205 grain hornady bullet loaded to the incredible velocity of 1300fps.
Smacked a nice 100lb whitetail doe deer broadside behind the shoulder once at the incredible distance of 60 feet. She jumped twice, fell over on the hillside with her feet in the air, kicked a couple of times, and laid still. Time I got there, she was dead.
Shooting down a steep bank.
Total penetration, entrance just below the spine, exit a little lower, similar sized big hole.
Scored $50 in the buck and Doe for a mystery weight prize.
Winner doe was 180 lbs I think. Buck ran 232.

Thought you would pull the wool over our eyes but you gave yourself away, Shooting down a steep bank, which of course gave it additional super short ultra mag type velocities. That is why it worked, shot placement had nothing to do with it, and cripes, 60 feet! surprised the fireball from that thing didn't set it on fire :runaway: PS; good hunting ;)

You got so close because you used wood on your gun as camo. They expect great big chunks of black plastic. I'm not sure that is a fair tactic.
Is it ethical to shoot an animal at such range? You must have minutes of training and be at least a marginal BB gun shot.

Things I noticed about John Y Cannuck's hunting experience...

(1) John Y Cannuck doesn't have magnum-itis... He has ballistic-common-sensus!!!
(2) John Y Cannuck doesn't brag about shooting deer at 1000+ meters... He hunts at reasonable ranges that are within the limitations of his equipment. Limitations that he is aware of and equipment that he obviously know's how to use.
(3) John Y Cannuck doesn't eat antler... Doe for dinner anyone...

Congrats on the deer!

Cheers
Jay

(1) Cured a long time ago
(2) Not often does such a challenge present itself, and yes, I'll pass.
(3) JYC likes racks, (espescially the soft kind) but when it comes to deer, I'll take what comes my way.
Thanks Jay

Sounds like JYC is a typical Ont hunter who enjoys camp company more than worrying about the big trophy, likes to get outdoors & eats what he shoots. Except for his oldgunitus (which a few of us have:redface: ) & storytelling disiese is fairly typical.
He would be welcome at our camp anytime:)
