Higher front sight blade for M96

If you don't mind doing some filing and fitting, Brownell's has Mauser front sight blanks for $13.28 (#078-050-000). They will send these to Canadian customers, but the problem is pretty steep shipping prices across the border unless you know someone with a US P.O. box or a Cdn. dealer is placing an order and can get it for you. (Shipping in the US for small items is $3.95.) Only alternative would be to weld or silver solder some metal to the existing sight and grind it down.

This is a problem with most military rifles; the lowest sight setting is usually 200 yds., sometimes 300. Not too much of a problem when the intended target was tall and skinny - aim for the belt buckle and all should be well - except for the other fella, of course. Not so good for deer, though.

Cut 4mm of black iron wire, apply gob of epoxy, place on top of existing blade. This gives you a nice round bead without doing anything permanent.

Duct tape might be good, but tends to lean over sideways.
