Does anyone know how to take the cylinder off a hill revolver?
I can strip it down completely except for the cylinder.
When I got this gun all the screws were rusted solid so I think there is a screw
under and parallel to the barrel that holds it on but I can't budge it and I don't
want to break something.
A description of the way it's held on would be much appreciated.image.jpgimage.jpg
Surprisingly the bore is excellent and lockup tight.

Someone must have one of these!
The pix show how far I can strip.
The top pix shows what seems to be a slotted screw head,if it is I can't budge it.
I can push with a screwdriver on it and it pushes out the extractor.
If all the moves what is holding the cylinder on?

ok my best guess is The cylinder is on a bushing that goes inside the barrel lug. my guess is its just rusted tight. same design as a lot of theses break open frame guns .
I would soak it for a few weeks in a pot of WD 40 or diesel then try pulling on the cylinder backwards. you can wrap it in a leather belt piece clamp it in a vise and then tap the barrel forward with a rubber hammer and wood blocks. It should come out. be gental but firm and no steel on steel beating. abit of heat on the barrel lug area would help (after the soak)
theres nothing else holding it in as far as I can see.
hope this helps.
very cool gun good to see you trying to fix it.

looking at your pics Might be easyer to clamp the barrel in vise (with leather pieces) and tap the front face of the cylinder backwads (With hardwood blocks)! After the soak and some heating just don't heat the cylinder or the extractor spring will fuk up. just heat that outside lug area where the cylinder bushing is inside the lug.

If you are going to soak it use some good penetrating oil, something like Kroil.

Dingus you might be right.
I did soak it in kroil, that's how I got the other screws out.
I think I'll try electrolysis on it before I start pounding on it.
Hopefully someone who owns one of these will chime in before I break something.
A diagram of its construction would be nice.

Dingus you were right.
A guy on the British militaria forums took his apart for me,all I had to do was tap on the front of the cylinder
with a plastic hammer.it was stubborn but it came.I didn't want to beat on it unless I knew for sure.
Thanks

Great ! I thought that was the correct way to strip it. there a cool design the way they work. hopefully you can get it up and shooting to !
