Did any manufacturer make an aftermarket hinged floor plate or a detachable magazine for a Springfield 1903 or A3? If so, who were they and does anyone know where I could find one?
If your talking about that last A3 posted on the EE then "Yes!" Thank You...
I hope it's a Smith Corona but it doesn't really matter, its a 1903!
But I'm trying to figure out if I can get one or more hinged Floor plates Or detachable mags that will fit an 03 action. I'm going to build military 03's regardless but I want to build one sporter for a hunting buddy & if it's real good I'll just keep it & bug the shate out of em with it!
Ok, One more Question(s): Should I be looking for a trigger guard & hinged floor plate from a specific model of Mauser 98 or will anyone of them work with slight fitting? Will a Model 70 work as well?
Uncle Mikes used to make them for both the M98 Mauser and the '03 Springfield. I've used both for yrs and am very satisfied with them. Contact Uncle Mikes and ask about them. I did this quite a few yrs ago. They advised that they were no longer making them, but referred me to a fellow who had taken up making them. I got my '03 one from him.
Hey Purple I called Bushnell, who now make Uncle Mikes products in both Canada & the U.S. . They were of zero help. Can you remember where you got yours? Was it North Sylva out of Toronto?
I think I found a company in the U.S. today. I'll make a phone call tomorrow & find out if they ship to Canada and their prices. Apparently they make trigger guards with hinged floor plates for the Mauser as well. I'll get the info & post it here when I find out.
Called Sunny Hill Enterprises (sunny-hill.com) & unfortunately they do not ship to Canada but do supply Brownells. But here's the kicker they want $499 for a hinged floor plate & trigger guard assembly for an 03!
I got the Uncle Mikes pattern unit from a fellow in California or Oregon who had gotten the manufacturing rights from them. This was 15+ years ago. Even with inflation it was nowhere near that cost. It is made from an aluminum alloy.
DWE, did you try a Mauser hinged floor plate ass'y yet? They are almost a perfect fit: just need to open up the rear guard screw hole in the stock a tad, and perhaps file the top of the mag box to fit under the rails.
