Hinged floorplate on Stevens 200?

SPS's aren't $500 CAD anymore, their MSRP is over $600 USD. We're now leaving budget rifle territory, and into the range where you can get a premium Savage.
Yea, your right about the price hike on the SPSs. Like new, used ones are up about about $500 now.

I'm gonna ahve to check out some of these new Savages. You don't see many of them down here.

Not really sure how you three can put a Stevens on the same level as a 700.

With the Stevens, you'll have to live w/o a good trigger, way better recoil pad, drop floorplate, better finish, more calibers, and TONS of aftermarket goodies. Gimme a shout about 10yrs after you get out of highskool and tell me if you're still satisfied with it. :puke:

But then if CHEEEP is the only point for buying a Stevens ..... go for it. :D

For the record, I wouldn't buy a Stevens either as I don't need to. God I wish I was back in high school (skool) but thanx for confusing me with someone 1/3 my age. You really made my day ol' timer.

I was handling a couple Stevens rifles at the gunshop tody, and it looks like the conversion to a detachable mang would be pretty easy (relativly speeaking) Looking into the Stevens .223 rifle action was almost like looking into an AR mag. The feed lips aren't part of the action, proper. It looks like there's already a mag in the stock.

Not really. The magazine box and feed system is made of sheet metal and inserted into grooves in the action. The follower and spring rest against the inside of the stock.

So, it's conceivable at least to convert this to a drop box mag. Perhaps even possible to convert it to accept an m-14 style box mag.

But probably not worth the effort

Don't bother converting or trying to convert them. Each mag style has a different cut out in the action itself. Different dimensions all over the place. This is the one area where parts DO NOT interchange at all.

Savage does make a hinged floorplate version. Whether they are in Canada is another story.

If you want a d mag, the older side button release works well. The new center feed is AMAZING. Built like a SBH and nicely finished into the stock.

Just go buy the action you want with the mag system you want and live happily ever after. Everything else you can swap and change as needed.

By the way, the center feed actions and stock use a slightly different bolt spacing so retrofiting into a Stevens or any other blind mag Savage will not work.

Savage/Stevens now has three distinctly different mag fed actions (maybe 4 but haven't seen a hinged floorplate action to know for sure), two trigger styles.
