Any thoughts or concerns on Hirtenberger 7.62x51 ammunition. I heard some really good things about it and some concerns. Is it true that they are a very hot load?
Thanks in advance

The 1982 boxer stuff I have isn't hot. 147 gr at 2775 fps. Brass is soft and doesn't like to be reloaded hot. Lower internal capacity. A light crimp improves accuracy.

Mine is stuck in its crate because of a metal band that keeps me out of it..... in fact all my milsurp crates have barriers to entry such as metal bands and nails holding the wood lids on. I even here in some there are steel cans inside.

Thanks for the advice! I ordered it for my bergara which I just received. It says in the owners manual not to use 7.62x51 in the rifle. Can I just ignore that??

Shot like #### in my Savage Axis II XP. So many misfires. Like half of every box. No clue why. Every other ammo is fine.

Must be the hard military primer. Try replacing your spring or upgrading to a heavier one to cure your light strikes.

It's a perfect plinking round in my Rem 783. No light strikes yet.

Great, so worst case scenario it just malfunctions somehow, as long as it doesn't do damage. Thanks for the advice I'll test it

On my second case of 720. Not a single dud, shoots well for what it is.
This is all I have used in my BCL 102, Stock Trigger, and later with my Geissele SSA-E.
My understanding is they do not like light hammer strikes but a good trigger should not do that.

BTW these guys do NOT shoot Hirtenburger! :)

mine was berdan primed .... too bad brass had to be discarded. It all went bang .... it didnt perform all that great in a M305 but that was most likely due to the nut behind the butt

Has anyone done a nail test on this stuff? Is it mildly corrosive as some say? What about the case corrosion issues? Is there a way to avoid them by date or?

Finally had a chance to try the ammunition today. I am extremely happy with it, I can hit a 1 inch target at 100 yards. Cycles and shoots perfectly

If only their was more of this ammunition available at a more reasonable price a lot of places don’t have it anymore especially around me great ammo tho

I quite like it too. I've been through almost two cases between an M305 and a Savage 110. Mine has all been 83 boxer primed. I think it's a little warmer than the M80 ball spec, but I've had zero ammo malfunctions in about 1000 rounds and it's accurate for the price. Not match ammo for sure, but groups about 1.5 MOA out of the bolt gun.
