I recently purchased a case of boxer primed 762x51 ammo through marstar and after unboxing it and sending 10 through my m305 I was a bit underwhelmed and had some questions regarding it and wondered if anyone else has some experience in this. when unboxing I noticed almost every round has a bit of this corrosion on it, the battle pack seemed to be fine no rips or holes that I can see and the cardboard boxes are in good condition so I was wondering if this is normal or not. some pics below to explain, the corrosion does come off as seen on the bottom round, a wire brush on a dremel takes it off without much effort. I have not unboxed the 2nd pack yet. The accuracy seems to be slightly worse out of the M305 then the Norinco ammo, but I only have fired 10 rounds and the gun was recently cleaned so im not sure if that is a large part of it. Suppose I am just wondering if this is cause for concern or does this sometime happen with surplus.

Mine are clean as a whistle. I have a case of both, and haven't got any of the corrosion you have seen. I still haven't opened the last battle pack of the boxer primed stuff. But it is probably the same as the first.

As for performance, this stuff is almost lights out. In my M1A Springfield, flawless and very accurate out to 300m. I've even tried it in my Coyote, my 700P, and my 700 custom bolt guns. I've even tried it in my Modern Hunter. This stuff is great. I've shot it out to 800m. While it may not be as good as factory match, and certainly not hand loads, I am very impressed.

Money well spent.

Edit: One thing I will say, this stuff is pretty hot. With a pretty light bullet, the mv is pretty stout. I haven't crono'd it, but iSnipe says it's around 2800. I would be curious to see what it actually is.

Next year now that i took arrangement with a new neiborg, i will be able to open my line to 1000 metres, i am loking forward to next year to try the Hirt on long distance... JP.

I have a bunch of Hirtenberger 7.62x51. Bought a pallet of it around 10 years or more ago. I broke up most of the crates and sold the ammo as battle packs. I also sold the great brown plastic storage crates. I sold it until what I had left was the profit. It was an incredible deal at the time. A better deal was the Greek surplus 303British ammo that came in green painted steel boxes with folding lids and seals, just wasn't enough of it.

Anyway back to the OP. This stuff is good just the way it comes out of the boxes for most milsurps. The bullets when pulled and weighed are phenomenally equal in weight with about a .2 grain spread at most. The powder in mine is a ball type and can have almost a full grain spread between low/high weight. The primers are hot, IMHO magnum primers which would make sense with ball powders.

When I am looking for extreme accuracy out of this ammo I pull the bullets with a kinetic puller, dump out all of the powder, weigh several charges and find the average over 30 rounds, then run the powder through a measure and recharge all of the cases (which are excellent for reloading) with indicated median charge. With the bullets used in these cartridges and the uniformity of the priming and case dimensions this creates very accurate ammunition out to 600 meters. I haven't tried it beyond that because of the lighter bullet weight.

That is just a little trick you can try if you feel like going through the effort. IMHO most M305s aren't accurate enough to warrant it.

This is the first complaint I've heard of with this ammo... I bought a skid and every round I've seen so far looks like it just came out of the factory. Im very happy with my lot. Email John and see if it might be possible for an exchange.
