I did a search in the Battle Rattle and the ammo forums with no results.

Has anyone got a range report on accuracy, velocity, reliability etc on the surplus Austrian 762NATO ammo sold at vendors on this board versus other common 762NATO we are throwing into backstops right now?
Cheers RTS.

Really promising results had groupings around 1"-2.5" off of a shaky table at a local gravel pit. Have not had a chance to get out to the range and shoot off of a good shooting table but will have to make some time in the not to distant future. Good stuff, should have ordered more when I did order.

Ya I know ^^
I think getting one or the other is a roll of the dice tho?
Some guys are likin it, some guys are hating it. YOUR rifle will let you know ;)

My M1A fires flawlessly with it. Haven't tried to group yet, just plinking. Will try this weekend. Now down to only 4 crates.

Now you got me blushing..........;)

LOL, I couldn't resist sorry hehehe ;)
What I'm seeing tho , which is getting kinda typical on these forums is I get p.m.'S from guys not liking it and only the guys liking it are posting... So we not seeing the whole picture.
It IS regarded as good quality surplus 7.62 tho.
See no reason not to try it and see how the rifle likes it.

Wasn't there a batch that was running way to hot for the M14 platform, or was that South African stuff?

I'm getting old, can't remember that stuff. Has anyone ran it over a chroney yet?

:yingyang:Here you go! Results may vary.I have tried it in 3 built rifles, 2 Norcs and 1 Poly. It shoots no better than the Chinese 308 and not as good as old Portuguese (FMN) and SantaBarbara surplus. All these rifles will do 5 shot groups at 100meters of less than 2" ( frequently much less) on a regular basis with my handloads. It runs nicely, doesn't seem to be hot by cycling and appearance of fired primers. 20% cheaper, I'd buy a bunch. At current price I buy boxer primed stuff instead.

My $0.02!

might as well just keep buying Norinco at $500 for 1000 rounds instead!

they're both steel jacketed copper washed anyways

1. who's got norico 7.62 I thought it was all sold out?
2. the hirtenberger is brass casing, not copper washed.

From what CGN people are saying (including John at Marstar), the bullets of the Hirtenberger ammo are steel cased with a copper coating. A magnet will stick to them.
It is only the casing that is brass.

There's still Norinco 7.62 floating around. The Shooting Edge in Calgary just had a wicked sale on the stuff. If seen it at other gun stores as well. Shop around. I just bought a 1000 round case last week.

I also just found SFRC has some norc 7.62.
I know what you mean about the copper coating, its not 'copper washed' though, I think that term refers to the casings (a different process to put the copper on the steel)/

50% boxer is not possible unless someone has been culling it..... I haven't heard one report of anyone opening a box and finding anything but berdan primers.
At this point even if was 10% boxer you'd think someone around here would have boasted about it.
