What was the main battle rifle of the porteguese army use in the ~1970

I would think FAL or HK G3?

Not positive, but I believe it was the AR 10.

There were only two users of that rifle, the Portugese and the Sudanese.

The Portugese Army used their own produced version of the HK G3.

Portugal adopted the FN FAL in 1961 and purchased them from FN.
The H&K G3 was also adopted and produced in Portugal.
The AR10 was purchased in a small lot of 800-1000.

The G3 is a fine rifle,but when I was in the the FAL( SLR) was a better rifle, less prone to dirt stoppage.

They issued a lot of FALs and G3s in Angola in 69. Lots of other stuff to but of course, that was a colony.
