As many people already know, a tan/brown dog can disappear into the brush like nobodies business. I like to let my four legged camp buddy roam freely and he usually comes promptly when called, but I'm looking for something to put on him to make him stand out when we're hanging around at hunt camp to make it easier to spot him, and make it obvious he's not a game animal ...

Ideally something not too heavy, we are often working around the hunt camp in peak summer and I don't want to overheat him. Back panels are fine, but something that goes across the chest seams to stay put better.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Edit to add- I do have a blaze orange collar with a nite ize collar light, just looking for something a little bigger

I got this years ago from Cabelas I think. Works great and is very visible.

I tried a variety of vests on beagles and my basset hound. They all tangled up in the brush. They also picked up alot of thorns and burs. I just gave up. Only experienced hunters wver hunted over my dogs.

A breakaway bell or beeping collar may be something to look into

Our camp had a spaniel hunt with for many years and we fitted him out with a modified/fitted plastic orange/yellow vest common on road crews at the time. Worked excellent and didn't attract burrs and he never seemed to get caught up in the thick stuff.

He did get shot while wearing it, but that was a hostile neighbor who did it deliberately. ( Dog was rushed to vet and eventually made a full recovery ). Hard to say you mistook the dog for game while it was wearing the vest.

I have bought a couple of different kinds from Cabela's. He wore a browning one first. It lasted a couple of seasons but he tore it up charging through the bush. The one he uses now has the Cabela's name on it and it has lasted longer. I think it was only about $30.

Whatever vest you settle on, ensure there is a lot of gap between the vest and behind the front legs. Ensure nothing is rubbing. I tried one once on one of my dogs and it made quite a mess under her legs . Never used one since.

Here's Bug modeling the Cabelas vest, its easy to see and gives protection from burrs and sticks

One of our two is like that, we have a bunch of wool dog sweaters to her to wear during the winter. She gets pretty excited when she sees a sweater in your hand lol.

Haha, yup, he knows the routine on how to get into it, this paw, that paw... they sure do cheer me up
