just in the process of getting my Rpal and looking at HK pistols.
i need two of them.
one for me and one for the daughter, now she uses the SP9 for work

what are the differences between the 9mm models?

HK has made many pistols with different actions.

USP series...many sizes, many calibers, options of DA/SA with cocked and locked/decock or both, SAO, DAO. Blocky, accurate, and super tough and reliable.

P2000 a compact and more ergonomic version of USP, came in 9mm, .40, and I believe .357 SIG. Triggers came in DA/SA, DAO, and LEM versions, I found the LEM to be like a single action trigger with long take up and short reset after first shot.

P30 series. A larger gun than P2000 with even more ergonomic changes....multiple grip panels. DA/SA, LEM, and DAO triggers. I found the triggers were inferior to USP DA/SA triggers due to very long take up.

SFP/VP9. Striker fired gun. It was compared favorably to Walther PPQ. I find it big for what it is.

HK compared to glock is bulky for what it is but very reliable and accurate (I also find Walthers to be larger than comparable Glocks). My favorite is the P2000 but I like small guns. If they ever made a polymer pistol in single stack I would be interested.

The sfp9 is my favourite. I have a p30l if the trigger was better it would be my top choice. They make the sfp9 in a longslide to. I haven’t seen one but am interested. The only other HK I have is a p7. Love it but it’s more of a gun you bring out once in a while. Be prepared to pay through the nose for magazines. Expensive but they always work and you can run over them with a truck. Really you won’t go wrong with any of them. Your daughter is familiar with the sfp9, so ask her how she likes it. I personally love the paddle release although a lot don’t

I've had a P2000, SFP9, USP 9mm, USP 45, USPc 45, and P7M13. Miss the P2000, but I've got the USP 9mm and P7M13 still.

Before you buy a USP make sure you handle one. They're chunky and not all enjoy the grip.

ok thanks for all the replies
looks like i need to get my mitts on a few models,i am new to pistols.
daughter loves her sfp9 and i know she hasnt shot any other pistol, as thats the only
one work gives her.

It would be good if you can shoot them before you buy them. I wanted to like the P30 and SFP9—I've bought one of each and then sold them and then bought two more and sold them. Despite feeling good in the hand I found them quite slippery when shooting, and the trough in the trigger guard on the SFP9 "bit" my trigger finger under recoil. The USP, on the other hand, feels like it fits like a glove, and I can shoot it much better.

HK, like Glock use cold hammer forged barrels. They are incredibly tough, durable & will last a very long time due to their polygonal rifling in their barrels.
Designed to fire FMJ’s. I would recommend you stay away from & avoid shooting bare lead bullets in both autos, unless you are using powder coated bullets.
