I got a chance to play with one of these over the weekend. They are absolute pieces of overpriced crap. They look pretty, but they are made of thinner metal than USGI ones and dent and crush incredibly easy. The feed lips are sort of bevelled to assist in getting it into the magazine well, but in doing so they compromised some of the reinforcements of the top of the magazine. The one that I saw was all mangled from being inserted into a jammed rifle. Thinner magazine body material also gets smashed right up from getting dropped on hard surfaces.

Are you being serious? We're issued these things for work, side and side with the USGI stuff. The HK mags are steel bodied and are substantially heavier than the USGI mags and have a stainless steel follower similar in design to the G36 mag follower. Guesstimate 2-3 times heavier. Ours run flawlessly in semi and FA operation. The only concern I've had with them has been corrosion with the steel body since we didn't buy ours with the maritime finish. Damaged dropping it frrom height maybe... but we abuse the hell out of ours and so far they're not even dented. Damaged from being inserted? Can't even imagine it. The only thing I can agree with you on there is that they're more expensive.

Are yours the Royal Ordnance SA80 mags? Those ones are built like tanks. The type of HK mag that I'm referrring to is the black finish. They just crumple.

The top right corner was mashed in from getting fed into a jammed chamber and the bottom right corner was deformed from being dropped onto the concrete floor of the range.

Mike K, The mags we're using were straight from HK's first shipment of high reliability mags to Canada. Their definately not RO SA80 mags. Look pretty much identical to the one you've posted the pic of except they don't have the US restricted markings that I can recall. We're continually dropping them on the ground, stepping on them etc... no dents so far and they function well with some of the ammo that caused us grief in our other mags. They also work well full of sand/grit. If you know someone whose bending 'em loading them in the mag well, PM me their address and I'll send em an employment application,

Just weiged one of each, empty. USGI mags weigh 112.5gms. HK High Reliability are 246.8gms. Ours don't have the US Restricted marks. If I get a chance later, I'll mic the magwall for thickness.

I can only echo PM and other comments about the HK mags -- they are tanks

I dont like the weight and not sure if steel in a alum receiver is the best bet.
