I tried one yesterday at the range and besides the unusual cocking system (which I like) I found the trigger very nice. To be exact is was a pleasure to shoot it. :shotgun:

I would like to ask for more input about this pistol and different prices that I might expect if I ever go that route. I have a feeling that a good one might retail for about 2K?????

Does any one use it for IPSC? How much are magazines?

Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks

They are awsome guns. I had one and sold it like a fool. Yes they will set you back the better part of 2k, check Wolverine Supplies at the top of the page. IIRC the gas port puts you into open division in IPSC, so not really a good choice for that.

Hi Lawrence

I have a P7M8 and LOVE it. It would be the last handgun that I ever sold. It fits my hand perfectly, is great to look at, is unusual, surprisingly accurate and overall just very cool.

It is an expensive pistol, no doubt, but pistol affectionados generally love it.

The magazines are generally 8 shot for the P7M8, although in Canada you can get 13 shot mags (blocked to 10) for the thicker P7M13.

It can be used in competition, but it will not be allowed in IPSC Production since it is classified as Single Action only. You could use it in Standard Division, but it would not be competitive.

So overall if you want a competition pistol for IPSC, look elsewhere. The P7 is a great pistol but it's size, mag capacity and the divisions it will be competing in make it uncompetitive in IPSC. If you just want a cool pistol to shoot that is very accurate, very practical in the 'real' world (if you carried in the USA it is so thin for concealment and simple to use under pressure) then buy it.

A great site for info is http://www.hkpro.com/contents.htm. Scroll down to the P7 section, but be warned: the P7 is addictive!

HK announced that the gun is going or has gone out of production. If it is hard to find parts now I wonder what it would be like in 10 years. Not too sure about P7’s reliability. I do hear that the gas port heats up fast after 100+ rounds and the gun requires cleaning up more often than say the USP.

The price tag is around $1,900-$2,000 depending where you buy it from. P7 is cool and is one of the smallest in restricted firearms. I too have been looking at it. Although I put it aside but it is not out of sight and can be considered if the price comes down to say $1,500-$1,700 range – maybe a wishful thinking. :D

I agree with you about addictive - the 2k is what is worrying me most  .

The way it fits in my hand and the fact that the user can operate it with a one hand is INMO, fantastic! The trigger of the one that I used yesterday was the most impressive thing of the whole fire arm. Just sweet and also I noticed not much recoil at all. That must be the delayed action I suppose. I'm going to put my feelers out and look for a good buy.

From what I gather it isn't unusual that the Germans come up with some innovative design that will prove one of the best on the markets. I think their prices go hand in hand with the quality though.

HKfan is right, they are very addictive. I bought my first P7M13, and now I have three. It's a sickness! My first impression of the pistol was the same as yours Lawrence, I couldn't believe that it took me so long to get one of these in the collection. I know the cost is tough to swallow originally, but the odds are good you will never get rid of it, so what the heck.

Used to have the P7M8s pop up in the EE from time to time... now that the gun is out of production and retailers are out (?) there have been none for sale lately.

BTW, I have two, one unfired.

Hmmm wondering if my friend can send me one from Europe if he finds one?????? I wonder how much they will charge on the east side of the pond. I know that The German Police was using them for quite some time and I heard even in the NL they were popular.

TSE has a new one in stock for $1,899, and they've got tons of spare mags for sale. Er, I think the date code on it was 2005... not sure off-hand.

As for IPSC, an eight-shot 9mm really isn't all that competitive, I think you can only use it in Standard Division and it doesn't make major, and ten shots is better than eight.

This is the reason I haven't got one, can't think of what to use it for other than as a neat toy. I have owned several in the past though, they are accurate, but the spongy trigger pull put me off and I really don't like the magazine release much, whether it's the heel release or the lever release. They've also got a fair bit of recoil because of the fixed barrel.

Spare parts are tough to get too, and I was living in the US at the time when I had a problem with one of mine. Took H&K in Sterling ages to get the parts, I was waiting for months.

TSE is usually pretty good about stocking parts for the guns they sell. If they don't have them you can get them from Numrich. Parts for the P7 are Expensive, but a spare parts kit is small because there are very few parts that break or wear out.
Recoil/firing pin spring.
Firing pin safety/spring.
Firing pin bushing.

Best gun ever IMHO

Like tou I love the trigger, and I don't find it spongy at all like cybershooter said. Mine is very consistent and crisp.

It has the safest gun design, ultra reliable (mine has been 100% reliable since new, and has been fired over 1500 times) and is very compact. Very precise also.

The only downsides I see are: can get hot after many shots are fired in a short time. I'm not talking 10 shots here, but like more than 10 magazines one after the other.
This never caused my any problems, but it is something a perfect gun wouldn't have!

the only other downside, it's the recoil. While being totally manageable, it does kick more than other 9mm designs. Still, the gun is amazingly precise for such a short gun.

Buy one you won't regret it!

great gun... mine is accurate, easy to shoot and i like the fact it is unique in it's manual of arms. do not use lead bullets in this pistol. the gas system will get plugged up and this will cause you grief.

magazines are expensive... VERY expensive. if you can find them for $75 to $100, i would jump on it.

the only warning i have about the HK P7 series is that firing the gun in 'double action mode' (trigger pulled and then spueezing the cokcer to fire the gun) has been known to break parts. it isn't an accurate way to fire either.

if you can buy one, i'd encourage you to do so. great gun... too bad HK is taking it out of production.

P7

I'm new here, but wanted to jump in on this. I owned one of the PSPs when living in the U.S. It's really a wonderful pistol. Had to sell it when I moved to Canada. I'd really like to find an M8. Any suggestions?

P7s in the U.S.

I'm new to all this, but have had a lot of experience in buying pistols in the U.S., including P7s. I left about a year ago, and saw a few P7s that were German police trades, selling at less than US$1000. Even if they're up to $1500. now, Questar can bring them in for about CAN$250., making them a lot less expensive than they are now in Canada.

Except that the German police trade ins had heel mag releases and the same guns sold for $800 here.
