Well I am really wanting to purchase a new pistol soon here, and while the Beretta 92 has always called me, I have recently been lured towards the HK USP. Its a good looking, modern pistol that has a very good following. However, I am set up to cast and reload lead bullets so the polygonal rifling is not ideal. However, I guess the P8 version used by the Germans has traditional land and groove rifling.

I understand that P8 pistols are in country, just how common are they? Who might carry a new one?

Also, how is the p8/USP to hold? as a reference I have what I would say medium-small hands and I do like the grip on a Hi-power.

The grip may be a problem for you if your hands are not at least average in size. The USP's grip is large and a little blocky... I really love this pistol and guys with smaller hands than me (average) have also loved the pistol. Best thing to do is to put your hands on one.

The USP grip is large and blocky but I got used to it. I ended up getting so used to it when I got a P30L and did a head-to-head I ended up preferring the USP and got rid of the P30L.

Very little difference (if any) from a normal USP. Don't see what the attraction would be...

Main reason is the rifling. USP uses polygonal type which is bad when using lead bullets, the P8 uses traditional land and groove rifling, so lead bullets are OK.

Unless someone can tell me that using lead rounds in a polygonal barrel is ok.

You just need to keep on top of cleaning that's all...

There is a P8 on the EE right now but he wants $1100. IMO way to high. Would be in $850.

hmm, well i might just try a usp and load copper for it and lead for everything else. ill have to find a dealer around southern Ontario that has one in stock to handle before I buy though.
