If not, do you know what its called, I want to make sure mine has this. Thanks.

No. The one in the picture is the craptacular dual sighting system.

Short rail.

These plastic bodied guns should be cheaper than the metal ones right? The plastic ones are easier to make, just pour into the mold no buffing priming ect..?
Plus they will break easier and you will have to buy a new stock from them if it does? Am I right?

just courious why are the long rail easier to mount to? thiers lots of pic on the net of short railed ones with scopes

im just wondering cause im thinkin i might like to get an sl8 and i like the look of the short rail better. what kind of accuracy are you getting from them also? are they heavy barrels?

thanks

I saw a front view of one on the net, the laser site is rightr at the tip of the long one.

Edited to post pic.

Is there a double sided drum Magazine I could get for my SL8? Providing that I get it fixed to only hold 5 rounds. It would be purely for asthetics. :)

If you get a long rail and a large-diameter objective, you'll wish you had the short rail, since you'll have to put ultra-high rings under the scope to keep the objective off the rail.

Get the short rail. It has no fewer ring mounting locations than the long one.

With handloads, my SL8 does .4" at 100 yards. Yours may do the same or better when you finally get one.

Regarding your post on the G36 conversion, do a search on gunnutz, you'll find my post on the pros and cons.

Thanks, Im not going to bother with the bipod either looks a little simple for 250.00. I could probally find a better one. The long rail on the pic looks like it ubstructs the scope 2. :(

You can get a kit from Wolverine to make it take AR15 mags. Pick yourself up a 100rd Beta C double drum mag for the M16/AR15 and you're good to go! As long as you pin it at 5. Ask me and I'll tell you how to do it easily.

As for the long rail being easier to mount optics...? lol. NOPE. Same ammount of crossslots as the short rail. If you have a large dia objective, or like to mount your scopes nice and low (like me), you'll want the short rail:

Really? That's odd. It's longer than the short rail so how does that work?

Neither HK rail is continuously cut like on a regular pic rail. They have pic/weaver cross slots about where you would put the rings on a scope.

Even if the long rail was cut all the way forward, it's unsupported past the receiver. Fine for its purpose - holding a front site at the end - but unstable for a scope / reflex sight mounted past the receiver. As in this picture:

You can get a holosight well forward by mounting it on the front cross-slots where the front ring of a scope would go, but no further forward without putting a RAS forend on. Knights makes one. http://www.impactguns.com/store/KMC-99326.html

There are aluminum aftermarket pic rails. DocRak comes to mind (they pop up used once in a while), also B&T ($).

HK makes a fully-cut short rail for G36's, which of course fits an SL8. I'm pretty sure there is no fully-cut long rail for a G36, as the long rail is for iron sights on the civvy SL8.
