UMP owners: I am looking to put an Eotech XPS-0 or EXPS-0 on my UMP. I have read some discussions that the top 1/3 of the front sight hood needs to be cut down so as not to interfere with the sight line of the Holo optic on the XPS-2? Does this allow lower third co-witness?

Experiences appreciated more than opinions. Thanks,

With a EOTech 552 I can just see the top of the front site hood through the window which doesn't cover any part of the reticle.
The only problem with the EOTech is the cheek weld, it just sits too high for me.
I use an Aimpoint T1. You can try a Holosun if you like the circle and dot reticle.
 
With an EOTech you won't be able to use the sights at all. The Aimpoint micro series or the Zeiss Z point (or those style of micro sights) are great options. The micro sights do benefit from the hood being trimmed though.

My first preference was for a Zeiss/Hensoldt RSA-S with the rubber armour cover but I can't seem to locate one in Canada. I am with you on the micro sights as a preferred option as I should get a reasonable co-witness sight picture.

Did you trim your front sight hood yourself? If so, what tools did you use?
