Hk416/hk417?

For the most part, H&K means NO CIVVIE SALES at all. This would be considered a 'military' weapon, kinda like the G36. I doubt you'll ever see one in civilian hands in Canada.
Nope not for civies, LE and military only. A couple got leaked into civi hands state side and HK made a huge deal about it. Apparently they exportated a couple state side for LE use but the deal fell thru so the middleman sold them to civies even though they where imported under ther agreement that the end user was to be LE. They werent cheap though 2000$ US for the upper. HK went after the owners and asked them to return the uppers.
The closest thing to a 416 would be the POF P416. www.pof-usa.com
Hk currently cannot keep up with military order for the 416 - and the 417 is goign to be goign into production as well.
Hk is also producing the new Hk45 which has a lot of expectant military orders as well.
Hk's US facility which was inteneded to produce the HK XM-8 (NOW DEAD) for the US mil is expected to be built to produce all three of the above and since they are in the US - once mil, gov and le orders are well underway - there is a intent to sell to the civilian marker (money)
The Hk416's that are in civie hands came in under a fraudelent USSOCOM order that was then diverted - they sold for $3200 USD via a HK dealer
Hk made hand wringing motion about getting them back - but the byers still have them and Hk has shut up.
Currently the order for gov't purchase of the 416's is delayed a bit...
Also General Dynamics who own Colt and Colt Canada (formerly Diemaco) has been attempting to buy out Hk...
Look forward to 416 and 417 models soldier on into the future with NATO armies...

I know a few that have Hk416's - some issue, some bought 
I have some old pics (pre rail system)
The new ones have the reciever height raise by 1/8" and a dust cover since it became obvious that it was benificial during trials.

Considering their lack of desire to even sell me a part for an SL8, I'm not holding my breath.

A few of the informed members / admin of 10-8 are aware of Hk's stated intent as well. Whether or not it pans out I cant say.
However for those of you in Canada - R.Nicholls has never been civilian friendly with HK items. Secondly since these will be built in the US of A - the odds of getting one exported (they only do 10.5 and 14.5" barrels) are slim to nil.

When I was down at HK on course, I asked about the "civi" market, right now they are intent on replacing the XM8 project. That said they are gearing up for a military contract, "civi" sales are a low prority. If these get built in Germany, then we should be able to get them(maybe just the top end).Some of confusion stems from the fact that R Nicholls deals only with Germany and not HK-USA. They don't even talk, I know is sounds bizzare, but it true.
