How does one go about owning a 12(6) (prohibited) handgun. I'm sure that you need to be listed as a collector (or something like that?). What exactly do your qualifications have to be? can anyone become a collector?

I'm interesting in perhaps buying a few 12(6) pistols but I'm not to sure about the legal issues.

Thanks.

Get a time machine, go back to 1994 and buy a .32, .25 or a short-barreled handgun.

Then you can buy and sell them to your heart's content.

Your only option is finding a direct relative who is grandfathered and who can then transfer one directly (from them) to you.

If you don't already have such a relative, you can always marry one.

And that is only if the 12(6) handguns are pre-1946 manufacture.

If you didn't own a .25 or .32 caliber pistol, or one with a barrel greater in length than 105mm (and owned one in this category continuously since then) before the law was put through in 1995, you never can.
