Has eveyone given up developing loads with Hodgdon Superformance in 22-250.

Was thinking of buying a pound but seems like all the research has stopped on this powder.
Iam looking for positive info....ive read alot on "stick with Varget" (but hard to find) or H380 Just to boring now.
And the the whole stick to 60gr Hornady info. Boring. Thinking of 50-55gr.
Everyone has determined that its a slow burning powder but some theorize its not and depends on pressure curves.

Or do Canadians just not use Superformance.

I tried superformace with 50-60gr pills. my gun didn't like it. Varget was my Go to and still sitting on a pile of it but I have gone to H4895 for 50's in my 22-250 cruising around 3980(50gr v max). One powder a guy I know swears by in his 22-250 is CFE223. I was thinking of giving it a go but like 4895 to much and with 3 lbs of varget on the shelf seems kinda pointless to me.

anyways I know you were looking for positive info so I made it as positive as I can... for what its worth I have 1/2 a pound of superformance I have yet to find a use for lol.

I tried 41.0grs Superformance under a 60gr Nosler BT in a Savage Axis, 3330 fps and a .75moa 4 shot group at 100m

Did you just follow Hodgdon data? no experimentation on bullet depth? Magnum primers instead of? etc.

yes I did follow Hodgdons for the 60gr Hornady soft point but at the time I found it hard to find load data for anything lighter then 60gr. Even hodgdon doesn't have loads listed for pills under 60gr. I gave it a good effort and burnt up close to 1/2 pound doing it.. Pills I use and tried are: 50gr. Sierra Blitzkings and Varmiters, 50gr Vmax, 55gr Sierra Blitzkings, Gamekings and the 60gr Hornady SP Varmint.

Not saying it don't work... every rifle is different but in my CZ550 Lux 14 twist I was able to get the same velocity, way better accuracy using either Varget or H4895. and there Temp stable, so I put the powder away and have not touched it since... but again.. it may work wonders in someone else's rifle, but belive it was better suited to heavier pills with a faster twist in my testing.

IMHO, it is to slow for the bullet weights you want to shoot. Superformance is almost the same burn rate as H4831, depending on lot, slightly slower or slightly faster.

You also don't mention your barrels twist rate. The majority of 22-250 barrels I've seen have a 1-14 or 1-12 twist rate. Custom rifles will have twist rates as fast as 1-7.

I have two rifles chambered for the 22-250. One is a Sako with a 1-14 medium weight factory 24 inch bbl. The other is a custom Rem 700LA with a 1-8 twist rate with a 26 in barrel.

My go to powder for the Sako, is 42 grains of H414/cci 250 magnum primers, which will generate slightly over 3700fps with sub moa accuracy if I do my part with 52 grain Amax bullets

I've tried Rel 15, 17, 19. Rel 17 actually gave better velocities with slightly over max loads but accuracy wasn't nearly as good.

I also tried Superformance with the same bullets. Accuracy was good but velocities weren't any better than I could get out of a 223 rem.

I use Superformance in the Rem 700 custom rifle with a 1-8 twist Ted Gaillard barrel I had squirreled away several years ago.

I worked up a load that is slightly compressed, over cci 250 Magnum primers, under 80 grain HPBT custom bullets, that is very accurate at just over 3000fps, according to my magnetospeed.

I won't give you my load for Superformance. It's safe in my rifle, which has match tolerances. I can get identical velocities with H4831ssc, with more compression.
