I just picked up a few more pounds of black powder substitute and I was wondering if I can use it in basically all of my rifles. some are modern but some are pretty old but all of them are safe with smokeless. I have some big bores like 500 jeffery and 460 weatherby that I would like to try filling the cases with BP and shooting them for the fun of it. but I also wouldn't mind trying to use it with all my cast shooting so that would include cases like the 6.5x55, 303br and 375hh also 12guage reloading

can I just fill the case with either ffg or fffg to where the bullet will be seated to, seat the bullet and shoot using large rifle magnum primers? if it was real black powder I would already know the answer but with the 777 I figure I should find out fist

777 can be used. It doesn’t like being compressed like Goex. I usually fill my cases by 2 foot drop tube, powder settles in better. My bullets are then seat touching the powder. When chronographed equal weights of Goex and 777. 777 gives higher velocities Burns slightly cleaner but you still have to clean like regular BP.

Thanks snidershooter i plan to use a droptube.

And im not worry about fps as all the rifle fire smokeless. So i dont want to drop the load by 15%to get BP velocities
I just want to skip the load data and fill the case and shoot it.

A real one powder does it all.

Haven’t used 777 but have used pounds of TrailBoss. It shouldn’t be compressed and load data literally starts at weighing a powder charge that touches the base of the bullet to be seated (OAL - bullet length) to determine 100% capacity charge and starting off at 70% of that working back up to 100% is so desired.

IN reading various inter net form most are using 2F and only 3F in small revolver like 31 or 36 cal.
Check the very large Hodgdon loading information. It appears that most stay with the factory recommend loading.

I use hodgdons reloading online like 98% of the time, I want to say that's where all of my data comes from that isn't for cast bullets

and factory loading isn't really what I'm looking for, I want to use black power sub in smokeless rifle that's have no issues being loaded to 64,000psi (well the Lee Enfield/Metfords are more like 50k, and the 12guage would be on its own)

most factory loading info for BP sub is with muzzle loaders and black powder guns (both say not to use with smokeless)

lots of the big bores use fast powders so 2 or 3 f seems to be not far off
my 460 Weatherby or 500 Jeffery gets loaded with 115gr of H4895
