Cabelas has really gone down hill for ordering online lately...as far as shipping goes anyways :(

Unless you have a way to pick up at one of their stores?? I am lucky enough to have a son in nearest city, which has a Cabela's store, who has done so several times - was no shipping charges, at all, that way - but I or he still has to get from here to there and back (4 1/2 hour drive each way)... First time was powder, second time was primers, third time was 17 HMR ammo.

Glad I shoot lighter bullets 36g-53g out of my 223 and have adequate powder on hand to push them. I don't think I would pay the going rate for powder let alone the shipping charges. For those that have mortgages rates should be going up 1% in the next month. Look for fire sales on EE

I can remember having interest rates of 18%+ with the last Trudeau...ha, junior has just begun!
Same here. Became real interesting when your mortgage came up for renewal when rates hit 22% and change. The mortgage was more that home value in some cases. Guess what the bank wanted you to do? Sad/bad time for a lot of families.

I don't get the sky high shipping rate either. Something out of Cabela's control?

We actually paid off our first home mortgage during those times - was a fixed 10 year term at 12% - I am sure modern folk would about puke at that - but it was what it was, then. Some farm friends bought land at that 22% plus mortgage rate - still farming today, so somehow they got through that ... I also bought a $1,000 Canada Savings Bond through payroll deduction at work (do they still have that??) - the face interest rate was 18% or 18.5% on that bond - then got to pay Income Tax on that interest that was earned, but never got to deduct from Income the mortgage interest that was paid ...

Your forgetting the $250 shipping charge they add now a days

That's CRAZY!!! I always ship to the Bass Pro in Vaughn (north of Toronto) since I'm only 20 minutes away. Usually shipping on stuff is around $20 for regular items. I guess powder is hazardous material, maybe double that but more than 10 times... that's just plain crazy!!!

During the last housing run people were paying $200k plus over asking price because interest rates were so low they decided to max out on the mortgage guess what these people are in for a rude awakening talk about downsizing fast

Was unable to purchase the powder online, error message saying to call the 800 number. I called and it worked out for delivery at nearest store. I’m just starting reloading this year, bad timing it seems… I get my hands on whatever I can and will do some experimenting. Once the shortage is over, will buy larger quantities of what worked best.

Funny how that works........

In some calibers once you get to a certain weight bullet you actually start using less powder.

I looked through several reloading manuals - I could not find a single instance where they listed more grains as Maximum of same powder with heavier bullet - always used less. But several instances found where a different powder was used for the heavier bullet, and then sometimes more grains used - compared to the grains of the different powder used for lighter bullets.

There is what I believe to be an error found in Nosler on-line data and in Nosler #9 book - they show identical loadings for 7mm STW for H1000 powder and 160 and 175 grain bullets - former Nosler books - 7, 6, etc. that listed 7 mm STW do not agree. What they currently show as a Start load for 175 grain bullets is higher than their former Max loadings - locked up an acquaintance's bolt rifle on the first shot.

There must be 120 plus types of smokeless powder made and sold - with very few exceptions, about none are interchangeable - all different to the others in some way. Most listings in reloading manuals show 6 to 15 powders for any particular bullet weight - does not mean more won't "work" - is just showing what they tested, I believe ...

Beware of cabelas!
Watched for weeks to see when powder came in stock. I refreshed one day to see the h1000 I wanted in stock online. It was up $10 from the day before, but was in stock. I had a gift card to burn up anyways.
Completed the purchase to be delivered to my local store for free. 8 days later, received an email saying no stock. I called and emailed for a few days to try to at least get a backorder, but was told too bad, try again.
Of course I received a back in stock notice during the 8 days from another retailer for less $$.
I won’t give them another penny. I went in and bought a big ticket item with my gift card and returned it a few days later. Full return on my debit card. Do not recommend!

I had the same thing happen. Their online system allows overselling.
