Hog hunting in Manitoba

There's not that many out there. There was a bit of a "heyday" about 10-15 years ago. Some ranchers got into wild boar ranching. It was supposed to be the next great thing (Ostrich anyone?). The bottom fell out quite quickly and I think some of these guy just sort of let their herds escape. Cheaper than feeding animals that weren't worth anything and couldn't be sold. There were quite a few escapees near Beausejour, and some west of Winnipeg. Some of the Beausejour ones made it to the St. Clements/Selkirk area.
I think if someone were to see one nowadays it would be quite rare. They didn't revert back to the wild very well, and most were shot, as they were sometimes rather easy targets.
