Hi,

Has anyone here tried the hog saddle? Seems very pricey for a machined aluminum clamp, but apparently it works very well judging from the testimonials. I have some heavy duty geared tripods that would work very well with it, so it has peaked my curiosity:

Thanks for the added info, ceriksson. It's good to know that people here are using it effectively and are happy with its performance.

J996, I love that AICS stock, you have a great looking setup. Thanks for the real performance pic of your target.

mildot, thanks, seems like everyone who has them is very loyal to the brand. It's a good sign.

Best,

I'm thinking of getting the less expensive Pig Saddle. Seems to be pretty much the same thing, only about a pound heavier since it's made of steel.

I got the Hog saddle last month and I'm very happy with it, it's stong and solid. Looking forward to getting some more time on it. It is expensive but worth the coin imo.

Hi Tikka223, I was thinking the same thing. The machined aluminum is a lot stiffer though, so there's no canting of the clamps when it's tightened on the rifle stock. The side by side review of the pig saddle and hog saddle is interesting. The pig saddle's price is right and it is functionally very similar. I really like the build quality and industrial design of the hog saddle versus the folded steel of the pig saddle.

JayCarver, I envy you. I am debating purchasing one too. I have two of these Manfrotto 400 tripods with the fold-away cranks and front and lateral tilt adjustments. They remind me of the anti-aircraft gun turrets with cranks. They would be fun for fine tuning down range. Probably overkill, but very solid.

I have an older one and they are excellent! Old pics but it holds everything quite well. They do make a less expensive pig saddle now as well.

The Pig Saddle is half the price. Coretac Solutions carries them and the Hog Saddle. Haven't tried them, but Kam wouldn't carry them if they were junk.

Tikka223, I've never seen the compact action before, it looks nice!

icedragonmx, thanks for the drool worthy photos of your gear! I saw a photo of the original hog saddle next to the current one on the hog saddle website and yours looks really sharp.

Thanks, kombayotch, it's good to know where we can buy them in Canada, especially so close in Ontario! It makes sense that the pig saddle is comparable since it's made by the same company. It's a lot less beautiful and a little more flexible than the rigid aluminum chassis because it's thinner. Seems like a more practical budget option. I wasn't aware of Coretac solutions, thanks for the info!

Just bought a Pig Saddle from CoreTac - will post a review once it arrives! Been looking for something like this for a while... should be great in the gopher fields. A stable platform without laying down!

Thanks, It is nice with quality gear and the Hog Saddle is exactly that! If you get one it will last!

canucklehead, I will be looking forward to your review too! CoreTac solutions looks like an interesting online shop. Too bad more places like this don't have brick and mortar shops. It would be fun to wander around and see this stuff firsthand.

icedragonmx, I'm sure that the hog saddle will last! Thanks again.

Happy new year everyone!

Best,

Ordered mine direct from Shadow Tech. They have a military discount as well. Have only experimented with prone so far with a Vortex Summit XLT at 900m. Does not replace a good bipod for prone work, but is workable in a pinch. Bought it primarily for work out to around 500 or 600m in the sitting and standing px. Will wait for the temp to get back up to -5 or -10 before I go back out and practice.

just got mine today from coretac, awesome guy to order from. pig saddle is well made for sure, couple of photos.
